Whatever. Hats off to the Lakers. And I’m comfortable saying that because nothing - nothing the Lakers did during this second half is in any way predictive about how they’ll play going forward. You can save the fucking cat from the tree a dozen times in a row and it doesn’t mean you’re good at Chutes & Ladders.

I watch most Cs games but rarely post here. I’m not breaking any new ground here I imagine, but there is something wrong with this team. What a joke of a game.
Yes. They have beaten some good teams but they haven’t shown anywhere near what they showed last year.

This team is a joke. There are no excuses to lose at home to the Lakers, never mind give up 129 points in doing so.

a triple tip off a block shot, take out any of those tips and the game probably ends right there

Anyone really making any judgments about this Celtics team based on this specific game is issuing a hot take. The Lakers made a completely unsustainable amount of threes and scored their last two buckets on fluke plays.
How many games where they flail at the end and/or play down to an opponent is required before it is just observation?

NGL, single game +/- doesn't mean that much and I understand that Hayward shouldn't be in there most of the time in crunch time, but he was +19. We lost this game because Kyrie couldn't hit anything for an EXTENDED stretch there in the middle. He got an important one at the end but he literally bricked the Lakers back into the game.

Soft play for the entire second half, it felt like a real intense defensive effort from the Lakers but besides a few moments the C's were just SO passive.

Sucks to lose a big one but can’t be too upset about it in the end. Especially with Rondo hitting the game winner.

Hayward over Brown at this point of the season is crazy. I am sorry.
Brown is so much better. It’s tough spot for the Celtics but you have to make a decision at this point.

Never mind, it wasn't Gordon. That's the worst couple bounces I've ever seen. Al gets the block, and two C's are in position to get the ball, and it catches the bottom of the back board and bounces out to Morris who can't grab it, and then Tatum can't grab it.
Never should have been this close though. Terrible performance by KI, Morris and Smart. Bench w Horford and Tatum kept them in it.

Between that bounce, the ridiculous sequence that led to LBJ’s trying 3, and the unreal overall shooting by LA, it was just one of those nights.

As I understand it New Orleans is now calling Ainge and offering Davis for Daniel Theis.

The ball went through the hands or near the hands of no less than four Celtics after Horford blocked the shot.

Soft. That's about as good a summary of this team as I've seen.

Here
Tatum on the Kuzma three was the real culprit at the end. He was staring at Kuzma from half court for some reason.

Never seen worse loose ball luck for one team in a single game. Every fucking ball. Mostly because Horford was doing god knows what with his hands all night.

or at the very least they should be playing equal minutes.. Brad's substitution pattern at the moment is inexcusable.

22/41 for 54% - Lakers from 3.
If they shoot 40% the Celtics win by 17. This is why I stay out of the game threads, people waaaaaaay overreact to variance.

Team is still rolling and lost by 1 on a fluke play to a team that couldn’t miss. Relax.

And I say that as someone that lost a 4 figure bet on Celtics -2.5, which by the way they hit if they grab a rebound with 2 seconds left... ugh

Jaylen Brown played 25 minutes tonight. Brad has totally lost me this season. He’s fine, coaches aren’t that important, but the wunderkind bs is over.

It’s infuriating to watch Brad keep playing Hayward
1. As much as he does
2. In crunch time spots overnight Jaylen

Jaylen is a better player right now and it’s incredibly obvious. There’s no excuse for Hayward fo continue to log more MPG

I'm going to keep saying it until I'm blue in the face, and my fingertips bleed on my keyboard.

We are going to continue to give away wins in the regular season until Brad decides to start giving minutes to guys who are playing well, instead of sticking to his fucking rotations. PERIOD. ROTATIONS.NEVER.CHANGE.MINUTES.SAME.

Gordon was a +19 because he played basically all of his minutes with Jaylen and Theis, who played 23 and 25 minutes respectively. Gordon did nothing. He's a body out there. 26 minutes, 4 points, 6 rebounds (2 when the buzzer went off to end quarters) and 5 assists (ok, a couple good passes). Kyrie was killing them tonight, and he stuck with him for the entire 3rd quarter, when the Lakers scored 42 fucking points.

Holy shit. I thought everyone was overreacting about Hayward. He had 26 minutes?! Why?

Tatum has 36. I like that.

In a vacuum it’s not the end of the world that they coast in the regular season and lose a bunch of games to shit teams.....but they’re a bad road team and are positioning themselves to only have one home series in the playoffs. The lack of urgency is going to crush them in the end unless a totally different team shows up.

They aren’t bleeding for wins the way we’ve seen past teams do.

This exact post could have been written about the Patriots.

Cuz that's what Gordon gets.
I think the amazing thing is that, if you had asked me, I would have said he got 15 minutes. 20 tops. Like you said, he’s just a body out there. If I dont even realize he’s playing, is that a bad thing?

I mean, his +/- was better than both Theis' and Jaylen's, he would've had even more assists if people didn't blow some easy baskets. He played 1 more minute than Jaylen. 'He's a body out there'? Where were you last game when Jaylen started and got 29 (only 2 less than Hayward!!!11!1) minutes despite not being able to hit anything and we played a super ugly game against the Cavs?

Game threads are the worst of the worst hyperreactive bullshit.

Edit: We lost this game because of most of the starters. Period. But what are you going to do? Not play Kyrie Irving?

Where was I? Right here in the game thread, the same place I've been for 99% of the Celtics games for years. If you think my opinion of Gordon Hayward and Brad's usage of him is based on this one game, then it's clearly you who hasn't been paying attention.

It took a franchise record amount of threes and a lucky triple deflection desperation shot for them to win. Calm down.

Patriots have a little more history though behind them. You can say that about the Warriors, not these Celtics.

This was about the most disappointing game I've watched this year. Lakers made some tough 3's, but also missed a ton of free throws. Lots of wide open 3's for the Lakers and horrible offensive execution by the starters. KI looked like he was trying to send a message to Lebron or something, forcing bad shots all night and several terrible passes. Gotta play some team ball dude.

I know it's not based off of this one game, but you'll ride for 'give more minutes to players that play well!' when Hayward is low impact but won't say anything when Jaylen is out of control. Completely transparent line of reasoning. On top of it, you're flipping out over rotations when it's like I said - what are you going to do, not play Kyrie Irving? Focus on what actually happened here - people who normally play well, didn't. It's not Brad's fault that Kyrie shot 6 for 21.

YES. YES. YES. You don't play him for the ENTIRE 3rd quarter when everyone in the arena can see he's not only struggling on offense, but he looks like a bullfighter on defense. There was no reason for it. Give the guy a break and put in Smart, who basically sat the entire quarter.

We shouldn't make too much of 1 loss.

If the Lakers shoot 50% from 3-land, Celts win.

But the C's D sucked tonight-their intensity fell off a cliff in the 2nd qtr, and they gave them open looks all night.
