Minnesota only had 3 shot attempts (1 on goal) in the second period (all scenarios). Vegas put up a staggering 2.27 to 0.04 expected goals during that time but only came out 1-0 in actual goals.

The Island
They have a lot of salary coming off the books now, but it's Nugent-Hopkins, Smith, and a lot of their forward depth. McDavid and Draisaitl taking 25% of their cap space hurts, but contracts like Neal's and Kassian's are tough to overcome.

EDIT: Also, Kyle Connor had the GWG and the primary assist on Scheifele's tying goal. But hey, Senyshyn will be something someday, right?

I think there's a way out for them but they need some more top six help and just a better bottom six. They will have cap room but they need more Hymans and Danaults than say Hoffmans and Ovechkins.

I mean other than the fact that all of the metrics showed McDavid upping his game to become at least an average defensive player Pierre has it right.

I thought McDavid was one of their best defensive forward last night (though I haven't looked at the numbers). He is definitely better back there than he used to be.

306, row 14
In all situations this regular season, with McDavid on the ice, Edmonton outscored opponents 125-57. With McDavid on the bench, the Oilers were outscored 97-58. Suggesting he is in anyway a problem or needs to adjust his game is lunacy.

Are we rooting for the Bossys or the Marios here?
For this game, I'd like to see the Pens even up the series and make the eventual series winner expend some more energy and take some more bumps before the Bs get them.

I'm still kinda torn on who the better matchup is. Carter looks like a great acquisition for the Pens, and their offense has the potential to put up some crooked numbers on the weaker parts of the Bruins lineup. The Isles seem very annoying though, able to weather long surges and convert a frustratingly large percentage of their odd-man opportunities. I'm not too concerned though, as folks around here have been saying, if the Bs are playing up to their potential they'll win no matter the opponent.

Local rags were saying if Pens still had Fleury they'd have 2 more cups in case you were wondering how they feel about Jarry

Yeah the Pens are pretty much like the Caps - shit defense and goaltending. I think the Bruins might have been better off with them.

Islanders pretty much conceding possession at this point. Pens missing the net have made their job easier, though.
