In: Villa savior Tom Cleverley, Barça's Gerard Deulofeu on a permanent transfer. Areas of concern are still cover at CB (Scott Dann from Palace) and a goalkeeper (Ospina?). It seems as though Arouna Kone will have to do as a backup to Lukaku.

Out: Thankfully, Distin and Alcaraz.

4-0 against Swindon [Mirallas x2, Lukaku, and an impressive Conor McAleny (who is older than Lukaku, Besic, Deulofeu, and Stones if you want some perspective on the age of this group)] to start the preseason before going to Singapore with Arsenal and Stoke this week. 5 AM against Stoke on Wednesday, available on Live Extra if you've got it.

It seems likely that Everton will buy Jonny Evans for around 8m pounds, which seems like solid business for an experienced CB that is still only 27 and played a pretty significant role in several title winning United teams.  He has had a lot of injuries but he's a good player  - he played a central part in those United teams for a reason - and should fit Martinez's style well given his comfort in possession.

Martinez has said that they're not interested in Evans: http://www.espnfc.us/story/2526038/jonny-evans-not-joining-everton-roberto-martinez

To me, it feels like Evans was a "break glass in case of emergency" plan in case Chelsea came up with a Godfather offer for John Stones. And since Chelsea supposedly lowballed their offer for Stones (I read 20m, which Everton should rightly ignore), Evans isn't coming. Plus, 8m isn't a lot, but it's a lot for a team like Everton to spend on a backup CB.
