Also, most bandwagon-y, least knowledgable fans of any team in any sport
I think we might be gaining in that category. Cubs fans are a product of their environment. I want to see them win if it's vs. TOR. Otherwise, team Tito.

Also, I've been telling all these assholes around here for 5 years Theo was a genius hire, I'd like to be proven right.

I have no problem with Lester or Theo. I don't even mind Lackey. And I like David Ross.

There are two reasons I can't stand the Cubs: Maddon and Chapman.

I think this was the best shot at taking out the Cubs. Wonder how tight they would have been had SF forced a Game 5. Now they get to rest up and line up their rotation while they wait for the survivor of the LAD-WAS matchup to limp to Wrigley. I think the Cubs are going to annihilate whichever one shows up in the NLCS.

I like Maddon now that he's not in my division and does Binny's ads.

Agreed. Would have been interesting. They were playing tight most of the game, although Moore was pitching very well. Now they've got a shot in the arm with this finish. I knew when SF brought Strickland in the game was probably over.

We would understand why Bryant had to be sent down for a few weeks to gain a year of control, unlike the fucking outrage around here. And we'd know that Theo wasn't going to bring a championship to town his first year here. We have plenty of stupids--just read the game threads--but it ain't remotely close.

Your opinion of Red Sox fans is clearly skewed by this site. But like I said, one of the reasons why I want the Cubs to win is how right I was 5 years ago.

I respect your moral outrage, but is it okay if I just want Bill Murray to be happy? With the understanding that he's probably a dick too.

Any Sox fan that lived the life of a Sox fan pre-2004 and isn't rooting for the Cubs - for whatever manufactured reason - is just being petty. Every fan of sports should get to experience what we did in 04. That feeling cannot be replicated by many fan bases but the ones who have the ability and are passionate about there team - the Cubs leading the top of that list - deserves to feel like we did that night in October. I'll never forget that night, we've had many a thread recounting our memories of it and everyone here cherishes that memory. The fans deserve it. I hate Lebron, but I was glad for Cleveland when they won.

If only you had taken that energy and used it to start the fucking game thread for the ALDS over some blue monkey motherfucker...
I can't help it if the dipshit started the thread while the west coast was still asleep

That bullpen needs to be fixed. If the Red Sox had a loss like that I would be apoplectic.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Romo's expiration date is Past Due. I am so glad I fell asleep and missed all the "drama." I don't like "drama" unless the team I'm rooting for wins.
(p.s. I am pretty sure the Cubs were reading rembrat's contemptuous posts about them a few pages back, and just had to say, "Oh, Yeah?")

The fans don't deserve shit, as any non-Cubs fan growing up or living in Illinois for significant periods will be happy to point out.

Sox fans can crap all over Craig Kimbrel if they want, but I'm sure glad we have him, occasional meltdown and all. I wasn't necessarily rooting for SF but it was kind of excruciating to watch guy after guy take the mound and none of them have the stuff to shut the Cubs down.

Yup, this was it, they would have been a tight as a drum Thursday night, now a huge momentum lift going into the NLCS and more importantly like you said, they get to line up their rotation vs whoever survives tomorrow night.

I think if the Nationals win, they'll give the Cubs a better series than the Dodgers would, but I can't see either of them winning vs the Cubs.

I'm pulling for Toronto in the AL, holding my nose the whole time, I think with HFA and those big bats, it will be a 7 game war with the Cubs.

As I already stated, I'm pulling for whoever plays the Cubs from here on out, I don't want to hear any noise about they deserve a championship, they deserve shit.

Do the Lions deserve a Super Bowl win? No, they don't as aside from one trip to the NFC Championship, where they got demolished by the Redskins, they've stunk on ice.

The Red Sox for 86 years were hard luck, nut punch losers, they've been a highly competitive team for close to 50 years, the Cubs for 108 years have been pathetic, sad sack losers; imagine going over 70 years without a trip to the World Series.

For the Cubs to win, they had to poach our GM, Assistant GM, stud first base prospect, 2 starting pitchers (including our ace), and backup catcher.

The curse mojo? Meh. We broke the one and only curse. Not them. Curse of the Billy Goat? Weak. No one gives a shit about some damn billy goat. We had Babe freakin' Ruth.

The media coverage if they win, especially with Maddon, will be insufferable. I also think MLB will do everything in their power to make sure it happens. Keep an eye on the umpiring the next two series.

The whole thing just seems so contrived. Almost like they're aping us. We are the name brand product. They are the cheap store brand imitation that you get for a dollar less. I hope they go down in flames.

The Cubs thing is definitely contrived. The billy goat was not integral to the team, just a random fan, and it happened 30 years into their World Series drought. And yes, their history is largely one of futility, not heartbreak. So the 2016 Cubs are not as deserving as the 2004 Sox, but still, they are the most due of all the teams that remain and I'm happy to root for them.

Moreover, if the Cubs have to wait much longer then there is a chance they'll become more due than the 2004 Sox ...

I love Theo, Lester, Ross, and a bunch of their non-Sox, which is part of it, but it's what PP said too. If you're being honest, you woukd agree that Cubs fans as a whole are no better or worse than Red Sox fans, most of whom are probably also morons. But if you don't think there is a sizeable group of them just like us 13 years ago, smart people who make fun of sports radio callers, who love their team as much as anything, and who have only a few times even seen that team be good in their lives, and you still can't find the joy in them winning, then I think you didn't experience 2004 in the same way that a lot of us did. Or you're a bad person. Either one.

It helps that one of my best friends is one of those fans, and I can't express how happy it would make me to see him that happy. But there's a lot more than just him. Go Cubs!

I've been out here since 2005, and married into a Cubs family, so I am certainly rooting for the Cubs.

A bonus reason to root for the Cubs; White Sox fans would be absolutely crushed by this. The parade would be 4 to 5 times bigger than the 2005 celebration, and their massive inferiority complex would be beautiful to watch unfold over sports radio. Ken Harrelson would be catatonic, which is a bonus for the rest of the baseball world.

When do the Cubs get their Aaron Boone moment?
I mean the Sox (not even going back to Babe Ruth, 1946, 1967, 1975, 1986, and several others) had one of the most heartbreaking losses in playoff history the year before they won the title.

I have mixed feelings about the Cubs. Grew up rooting for them in the early '60s but switched to the Sox after we moved to Boston in '67 but there is simply no comparison between the respective WS droughts. At least the Sox had some oh-so-close WS, the Cubs were just decades of futility & incompetence.

That said, PP is right, the town will go nuts if they win & decent Cub fans will have their own "Win it For" moment. My brother-in-law has been a Cub fan all his life & he is getting up there. I'd like to see them win just for him.

I'm rooting for a Cubs - Tribe WS so maybe the Sox ownership will see Theo and Tito in the WS & maybe have a twinge of regret for overreacting to 2011. Until we know the full story behind what happened then, I'll give Theo a pass.

Oh yeah, Maddon and Chapman can both eat a bowl of dicks.

THEY ARE THE FRIGGIN YANKEES
Since you keep saying this, what does this even mean? They were middle of the pack in salaries this year (at least to start the season), 14th overall, they have the polar opposite of NY's historical winning tradition. Does it just mean that like the late nineties Yankee teams, they are clearly the best team in baseball?

Does everyone hate the Cubs?

The hell...I get hating the manager, but it's Lester, it's history, it's Theo (whom I don't hate at all)...I want to see them win it!

Am I the only one who's indifferent? I have nothing against Epstein or the city of Chicago. I just find that just because everyone expects them to win it all, I cannot get emotionally engaged in how their season ends. Although, I do dislike the Toronto team a lot, so if they make it to the WS, I'm rooting Cubs.

I'm hoping we get Theo's team vs. Dave Roberts's team then whichever team wins that one against Tito's team. The only '04 Red Sox connections I could find for the Nats is that they signed Bronson Arroyo before the season, but he couldn't get healthy, the only Jays one I could find is their recent hiring of Cherington.

That's basically where I am. But I must say that Maddon irritates the hell out of me and Chapman is a very bad person so I'm rooting for a blown save that costs them the series, whether that be NLCS or World Series. I enjoy watching sad Wrigley faces so it'll have to be Game 7 of the NLCS since the AL has home field in WS.
