When MBappe was going to the spot, you could tell he was thinking he had a crap game and hoping he wouldn’t screw this as well.

I don’t think Switzerland is a good team, but this France certainly didn’t impress.

Already 4 of the top 10 teams (based on pre-tournament odds) have been eliminated in the round of 16 (after all of them made it to that point), and one of England/Germany is going out tomorrow. Exciting tourney.

What a game. What a day. Sommer with an incredible save. Not a super kick but the reaction to get the arm up and the strength to bat it away is superb.

I think Switzerland is a pretty good team, just like Austria and Czech Republic and Sweden and these well drilled teams that can stifle a top attack while being able to utilize their strengths offensively because they understanderstand themselves and have a plan.

agree on Mbappe.

Football was the winner today.
And all of us, but I think that’s what you meant maybe.

It's opposite day-- Switzerland is the one with Frere Xhaka, and France was the one with Swiss cheese for defense.

Kellyanne Mmmbop had a rough game. His value probably has cratered all the way down to $150 million or so after that.

I was watching with my wife and mother-in-law and said Mbappe was going to miss before he even lined up.

Dude just didn’t have the finishing touch at all this game. Looked like that last pen, he was more concerned about not missing the net or hitting the post and went too conservative, which gave Sommer the length to stop it.

Almost everyone else buried them into the corners.

The taker has every advantage in the world. If we’re looking for blades of grass between a keeper’s toe and the line we’d better take a long, hard look at the cowardly hesitation moves and skips. If you’re so insecure in your shot that you need to wrong-foot the guy 12 yards away standing in an 8’x24’ target you shouldn’t be taking a kick in the first place.
