The Scottish National Team has an Hono(u)r Roll for all players with 50+ caps for country. Andy Robertson is 5 away. Be a joy to see him get it this tournament.

My second block class today will be watching Scotland v. Czechia Czech Republic.

8392 days since Scotland played in a finals tournament. It's been a while. Already an injury blow for Scotland, Tierney is out, a massive loss. Scotland have beaten the Czechs twice recently, an away win against a 3rd string Czech team due to Covid and a very lucky home win where the Czechs were the better team. My wife has given me permission to drink beer at 9am as I watch the game. Is that too early, dunno, but it's also my birthday, a game time decision. 'Mon Scotland!! More in hope than expectation....Gilmour sitting on the bench, I would have loved to see him start. He's the one player than Scotland have that can open up a defence. That team looks very pedestrian, no Forrest, no Fraser, Chistie playing off Dykes up front.

I'm a bit surprised that at Hampden against a mediocre opponent, Clarke went as defensive as he did (or maybe I shouldn't be surprised at all). I assume he's concerned about the midfield, but ugh. Good news is that there's some actually weapons that can come off the bench and maybe make a difference offensively in Fraser and Adams and Gilmour.

And your birthday is always an excuse to drink early, as is Scotland's opener at the Euros, but when they fall on the same day? Cheers

I had convinced myself that Scotland had played a finals game on my birthday before. It was actually June 13th 1986. I spent the a few days down in Edinburgh, I watched Scotland play Uruguay in a pub on Princess street. Batista was sent off within a minute, "we're going to win this!". Not so fast, ended 0:0. Nicol I think, missed a sitter where he tried to roll the ball into an essentially empty net only for the keeper to get back and save it on the line. Painful memories.

Scotland will be lucky to get nil. (Still...c'mon, lads. Do my adopted country proud!)

FWIW, my understanding is that the Czechs really don't like this term and still prefer to call their country the Czech Republic. Here's a related article I just found on Google:

https://www.euronews.com/2020/10/05/the-czech-republic-is-still-officially-called-czechia-why-hasn-t-it-caught-on
They should really call the country Bohemia, so we can all imagine its residents living in industrial lofts, staying up late at night having long intellectual conversation with some of them working on a new exhibit and some of them on a new book about the life of the eccentric disaffected. `

I hadn’t seen it before, but it was pretty bad. The broadcaster called it a back pass to the keeper.

UGH. Thanks for this.....I had consigned that to a distant memory. I had fortgotten about these attrocious beach shorts. Archie MacPherson commentating, I miss that old goat. The guy was an institution. Talking of institutions, I wonder if Fletch will grace us with his presence today.

Not a lot happening early...some good pressure early from McGinn didn't produce any real opportunity. CZE just starting to get a bit more comfortable on the bal...

Dykes just misses shortside as Scotland gets exactly the kind of overload on the left side they'll be looking for on the break.

I'm going to continue my string of not terribly helpful kit-based posts and note that I hate the trim on these Scotland jerseys. It makes them look like Team GB.

I still struggle with the fact that Jack Hendry is a first team choice for Scotland. When he was with Celtic he had the turning circle of an oil tanker.

Would really like to see Clarke be a bit proactive here and not wait until the 80th minute to bring on subs. I don't think Scotland played poorly but they weren't really able to string together too much sustained pressure. I think O'Donnell needs to come off for Fraser at the half and if they can't get anything going with that bring in Gilmour for Armstrong before the 60th minute. Adams on for Christie as well, though that has less to do with Christie (who has been fine) and more to do with fresh legs and the Dykes-Adams partnership which has worked recently.

The Scots should have brought Erin Cuthbert in the squad.

Robbie really misses Tierney. But Gilmour on at the half would shift the dynamics and force the Czechs into some quick Re-thinking.
