Sucks. I like Sunderland and can't stand The Three Lions. Sam will do nothing but piss everyone off and win games.

10 years later than I'd prefer, but I think he's the best for the job. Arrogant or not, he knows his stuff. Hopefully he'll pick his team and not the FA's.

not that i wouldn't enjoy it if this became a much bigger story but the things he's actually purported to have said don't even seem bad. Saying "you can get around 3rd party ownership" is truth -- you can buy the player outright as he seems to have said they did with Valencia. If all of this really amounts to "he said bad things about Woy and Gary Neville and took some speaking gigs" then i fail to see what's actually a problem here since truth is a defense to libel and all that.

Chances are the only things that will get him in actual trouble are the comments about the royals, lol

What a bizarre 24 hours - reports are suggesting that Allardyce has tendered his resignation and that he and the FA are in the process of wording the press release.

How someone who coveted the job so publicly for so many years allow himself to be in this situation is nothing short of ridiculous. He would never have been anywhere near the job if it was down to me but the lack of choice allowed him the opportunity and he's screwed it up.

With this happening on the same day as another dinosaur, Nigel Pearson, getting suspended by Derby County - probably for another loss of temper or violent outburst - all I need now is for Tony Pulis being caught in a compromising position with an inflatable toy or animal and my day will be complete.

Vive la revolution, get rid of the old soaks and old ideas and start thinking differently.

Apparently there are a bunch of other shoes to fall, with the Telegraph stringing it out over time to keep selling more newspapers and getting clicks, including misdeeds by a few other well-known managers that Big Fat Sam blabbed about. It seems possible that Pearson is one of the guys and Derby has suspended him preemptively, having got wind of the story already.

I was thinking that about Pearson as well & nothing would surprise me about that nasty piece of work. I must give some thought as to who else could be implicated while I listen to the Leicester CL game...

Unless there is something considerably worse coming this seems a classic case of embarrassing your boss by telling well known truths.

Well, yes and no. While I understand Teddy's statement that Sam didn't say anything that folks didn't know about, it is a pretty significant part of British culture for leadership to toe the party line. Having the England manager taking this meeting at all is bad optically, but then having him say that the rules can be gotten around is really a death knell. The first text I got on this from friends in the UK were pretty quick to the final judgement. Within about 3 minutes of the news breaking all had agreed that Sam wouldn't last another week.

I know he's on the list in the "pulling names out of a hat" section, but imagine Sunderland fans' heads exploding if it way Moyes (although at this point in the season I think a lot of them might be pleased to see him go).

This British newspaper practice - usually tabloid practice, although the Telegraph is clearly now in on the act - of setting up the fake businessman sting really is the lowest form of "journalism". Often the targets deserve the embarrassment they get, but a) this isn't the right way to get it, and b) I feel a lot of sympathy for Big Sam in this case anyway.

Its amazing that somebody as mediocre as Steve Bruce may be the favorite here (I assume Pardew and Howe wouldn't leave their clubs in the middle of the year but maybe I'm wrong). At least BFS once managed a team that played in Europe and finished in the top half of the Premier League table. Steve Bruce's managerial highlights are basically taking a few teams from the Championship to the Premier League and then keeping them around a couple years before getting relegated again. Who is the best player that he has ever managed? Cattermole? Bent?

They really should just hire Bielsa or Van Gaal.

The other day I was thinking that, for a club like Sunderland, they weren't going to have Big Sam available to bail them out of certain relegation this year, et voila, he's on the market again. He must've been getting itchy, sweaty palms. This is Big Sam firing season, while January is Big Sam hiring season. We should have a poll about who hires him and when.

Just remember he took Bolton to Europe. Bolton. Whatever his sins, he was a hell of a force for a while. His skill let me watch my team with my father long after I'd given up hope that I could see my team reclaim the glory of its original luster.

That said he's a bit of a prick, but the locals in Bolton still love him.
