Really? That would bum me out. He's really classy on the ball, a bit herky jerky but it seems to throw people off. I think he'd be a really good addition for United but if he's a Mendes client he's probably already signed there.
He definitely fits the part stylistically, that tall lanky midfielder with good feet and some class with the ball. The knock on him that I've read is that he has been more sizzle than steak in his career so far. But that's true for a lot of young players.

If someone was going to score Iceland's first goal it probably is best that it is that Thor looking dude
Well said. His hair is luxurious.

On an unrelated note, it is awesome to have Pepe around, even if he has to skip filming a scene as a prison guard in the new Expendables movie to participate. Whenever he's involved, the chances of someone being maimed jump way up, and as a good American, I watch auto racing and soccer for the crashes.

Iceland need to hang onto the ball a bit longer, it's gonna be a long 35 minutes, until they concede, then the time will wizz by.

In addition to the Golden Boot, i'd like to see them hand out the Golden Elbow to the thug of the tournament.

If there was a Ballon D'Or for throwing a tantrum after your teammates do all the work Ronaldo would be a shoe in

So... WE should have a vote on these at the end of the tournament.

The full roll and "studs up at your chest" move by Pepe a moment ago gets him on the scoresheet for the Golden Elbow Award.

And whether Ronaldo should be eligible for the Christiano Ronaldo Hissy Fit Award is something we're gonna need to send to committee. I don't think he should be.

Actually now that I think about once Pepe retires they should do a reverse Russell and name it the Golden Pepe award, for triple entendre effect

There's no way he's going to try to put this on net from there...

edit: of course he did. What a selfish player. The fact that it became a corner was about the best outcome possible

This is a fun to watch, nervy affair for a neutral. Both teams playing their asses off.

How awesome would it have been if the other player standing over the free kick had run up and taken it instead of letting Ronaldo take it?

Am I the only one who thinks that the audience is great?
The Iceland fans have been amazing. And i think this swings it for me in terms of expanding the tournie...it's great seeing all th4ese new sets of fans lighting up the tournie. Oh, and Lineker just said that there was 30,000 iceland fans in the stadium. Unreal.

I was going to break something in my office if Portugal scored on that second free kick

He is everything Arod wishes he could be.
I think this is incredibly unfair to A-Rod, whose defining characteristic is an overwhelming need to be liked by literally everyone, to a bizarrely ingratiating degree. He's the ultimate beta trapped in the ultimate alpha role; even his late-stage heel run has been the role of a suspiciously over-eager puppy (that might be possessed by Satan). The man who truly aspires to Ronaldo's casual dominance and elitism but can never get there because of his deep self-confidence issues, is LeBron.

Compared to Iceland, Austria/Hungary didn't get nearly enough chatter in here as it deserved. That was a bananas second half, and I still can't decide if Austria laid a turd before going down to 10, or if they were unlucky not to be holding a 2-0 lead.

I can't video or audio of the Ronaldo quote. I just looked at multiple Portuguese sites and don't see them there either. He said that they expected them to park the bus after they scored and it's hard to break a team down that's playing so defensive. The worst he said of Iceland was that only one team wanted to play, while the just parked the bus.

RE - the worker strike, glad I spent most of my time south of the river Seine. It also explains why there was a police brigade doing laps around the Place de la Concorde, Louvre area. Also, it seemed there was heightened security around the Eiffel Tower. Everything is fenced off, you can see it and go up it, but you can't go to that park to take a picture that will inevitably become your facebook picture because you want everyone to know that you went to Paris. Anyway, I haven't seen any violence is the point that I'm trying to make, but I've also not gone out looking for it. I knew about the General Strike, but I can't say I knowingly avoided the Louvre (actually walked by it in the afternoon). France loves to strike and it seems like the Euro is giving them more media coverage to get across their agendas. More power to them, I guess.
