Nothing official yet, but it's reportedly a 10-day contract. The WWL just had Stephen A. Smith on to pontificate on the topic.

He'll debut tonight against the Lakers in L.A.

Thought he would be better served on the Clippers, but at least he is getting back into the NBA so that news story will end. Now for an endless barrage of media coverage to turn something that shouldn't really be a news story into the biggest story in the NBA.

And for a 10 day contract...what more stupid questions can the media ask???

Why, just out of curiosity?

Just because the Clippers really need frontcourt depth (although it looks like they snagged Glen Davis) and Doc Rivers has said in the past that he really likes Collins and thinks he is a great teammate. Plus, Clippers are a legit contender while the Nets are pretty much just treading water.

Ok, I only ask because Collins played with Kidd for a while, and it might just be a comfort thing for him since he's restarting his career.

The Nets have the third best record in the Eastern Conference since Jan 1st.  I'm not sure how legit they are but if the Clippers wanted him they could have had him anytime over the past few months so the point really doesn't stand anyhow.

A lot of folks I know figured Collins would get calls after the trade deadline and not before--pick up no-contract guys after you've exhausted the better, long-term options--so I tend to believe it stands better than you're thinking it does.

The third-best record in the East since 1/1 doesn't mean a ton. The Nets are playing much better, but they still have to go through Miami and Indiana.

Well, isn't it fairly common for veterans to hang around for the first half of the season, gauge the interest from teams, and then get signed to a contender around the All-Star break? Plus teams want to see what they have with their own situations before signing another man. PJ Brown being signed by the Celtics is a good example of that. Collins isn't the type of player that Brown is, but the situation is similar. Just because the Clippers could have signed him to a contract earlier in theory, it doesn't mean they could have actually signed him or will willing to sign him.
