Both Belichick and Kraft, as one outside party noted, "took the high road," which was appropriate for an owner-coach tandem that will go down as one of the greatest and most decorated in NFL history.
Belichick, who had one year remaining on his contract, will be allowed to leave the team without the Patriots seeking compensation.
I think for those of us of a certain age—who grew up with only the Celtics ever finishing the job, this truly marks the end of an era. Boston was the center of the sports universe for a long, long time. Still, good things to look forward to.You knew it was going to happen eventually - just wish it wasn’t like this.
The man helped bring me 20+ of the best sports fan years of my life.
They definitely need to run a real search and interview multiple candidates from all over the league. I do want a GM hiring the coach and hope they go that route because you can get the ball rolling on that.I always thought this was the most likely outcome, and probably the right call by Kraft I think. But it is still a very sad day. Thanks for everything Bill.
I just hope they run a true process to find a new GM/Coach and don’t just hand the job to a Bill disciple. I’d rather a clean break.
In terms of Bill, what can you say? The GOAT, nobody else is ever going to win 6 Lombardis as a Head Coach. I hope he catches Shula.

This is how I feel. Even if every other HC in the league was suddenly a free agent, there’s only a handful I’d consider bringing in no questions asked.I sort of expected it, but it still makes me sick to my stomach. This league is littered with mediocre coaches, year after year.
And Pete Carroll.Saban and Belichick, both within 12 hours.
Sadly I feel the same. I just really really hate this and feel like it was a bad call like ditching red Auerbach.I think this is an incredible mistake and I like this team less than I did for the time being than I did before I woke up today.
Yeah, he might not be the biggest bust in Patriots history, but he's the most significant by a mile. This is all pretty much Mac Jones’s fault.
