It's the deflection that made it an even more incredible save really. If it isn't deflected it's closer in and I think Ramsdale gets his hand on it.. the deflection put it out further wide.
Or it slowed it enough to reach out and get a hand on it. Only Ramsdale could tell us which it was. It was great save regardless.

Xhaka got Liverpool a point with his antics up 2-0. This Liverpool team would have folded without it. Too bad he couldn't deliver all 3 points to LFC.

On to elbow gate.

Arsenal extremely lucky to get a point out of that.
They came up small in the second half. Two more points would have been massive, and psychological boost would have been huge too. I wouldn't call it a "wobble," but it's not good either.

City have to be favorites now. 6 points behind with a game in hand and still have to play Arsenal again.

Not me, but yeah they really needed some stability when they were losing control of the game.
Holding was a huge problem.. really the first time Arsenal's defense has been an issue all season. Saliba has been rock solid all year.

They also lead on goal differential.

Edit: also both times Arsenal and City play this year the games have been on Weds with games on both weekends.. Arsenal have two premiere league games (so three in a 8 days with Southampton the Friday before and Chelsea the Saturday after) and City get to play in the FA cup the weekend before the Arsenal game. Given the stakes it would seem to favor City since they're the deeper club. The WC really messed up the scheduling this year.

A single point seems so insignificant compared to three for a win, but when you get down to crunch time it's scenarios like this - the difference between 6 and 7 is huge.

The linesman that elbowed Robertson has delivered a golden opportunity to start improving the game. PMGOL and the FA now need to come together to draw the line. Only the captain can speak to the center official. Period. Players can’t surround or confront match officials without an armband. Automatic yellows to anybody that violates it.

In my idealized version of this, referee accountability is brought forth as well. VAR conversations are available (as they were supposed to be), and referees owe explanations with media availability. Let’s air this shit out.

was away so am just catching up on Liverpool & the Fire. What a wild pair of matches.

Completely agree that this is the opportunity to address player harassment of refs. That seem possible? Unfortunately, I don’t see the rest of your sensible ideas coming about anytime soon. If feels like the it took so much to get VAR in place that the instituting of ref’ing will resist any further major changes for a decade. It’s just that conservative.

That said, I don’t much blame the linesman today. His was a competitor’s response. I know refs are supposed to be beefeaters or monks on the face of player and fan harassment, but they’re people, too. A 3 game ban similar to a red card for throwing an elbow is appropriate. And Robbo earned his yellow.

This feels like a huge missed opportunity for ‘Pool between the VVD fuck up, the missed PK, and slew of spurned chances. But fair play to Ramsdale. Outrageous stuff.

also - BOBBY! The legend continues.

I’m with sm on this. I think it’s an opportunity to have a moment of reckoning.
