Some minor league news, I’m told RHP Durbin Feltman has been released. The 25-year-old was a third round pick by the #RedSox in 2018 and had a 4.82 ERA in 146 career minor league appearances with the Sox organization.

Chris at Sox prospects thinks there is more to this than performance reasons
Very atypical to cut a guy this fast. This isn't just a performance cut. Possible he requested it but he doesn't feel like a guy who'd go to NPB or KBO.

Unless there's something contractual I can't imagine why he's be released in the middle of April. There's gotta be something we're missing.
There shouldn't be anything contractual that would lead to releasing him now. I wonder if it's just a matter of roster construction. Wilyer Abreu is coming off the IL and they need a spot for him on the WooSox roster. Perhaps releasing Feltman was preferable to sending him down to Portland and releasing some other minor leaguer?

Perhaps he just asked for his release? Seems like the organization has granted similar requests in the past, especially for players they didn’t really think that highly of. That he was a relatively high draft pick and well thought of years ago probably ain’t really relevant anymore.

Don't disagree with this, but it's worth noting that with the just signed new minor league collective bargaining deal, the number of minor leaguers teams can protect will go down (as of 2024, not sure when precisely that kicks in):

"Beginning in 2024, teams will be allowed a maximum of 165 players under contract during the season and 175 during the offseason, down from the current limits 180 and 190."

The Red Sox changed his delivery and pitch mix coming out of TCU, for reasons I can't remember and/or never understood. I can imagine him asking out so he can go somewhere that will return his old mechanics. It's what I would do in his shoes.

Hah, that'd be something if Feltman becomes another data point to "our pitching development is worst in MLB" argument.
