Dumb Bluetooth Speaker Question

Can I connect multiple bluetooth speakers to my ipad?

I'm having a party in a few weeks and would like to place speakers throughout my yard and have them all play the same music.

You can if the speakers also have airplay capability, but I don't think so with just Bluetooth.
My iPad Air 2 and iPhone (maybe it's different on the new iPad pro's and 6s's) let me connect to multiple devices (speakers/headphones) but the connection will one play the music through the most recent connection and mutes the first one even though it is still listed as connected.

I have a UE Boom and although I haven't tried it, you are supposed to be able to pair two at once with a single iPad. I don't know how big an area you are trying to cover, so I don't know if two would be enough.
