That is cool. Looks as if the manager is someone named Callix Crabbe, who played 21 games and had 39 PA for the 2008 Padres.

It has that effect on people.

Right after the first time I saw it I called my dad to tell him I loved him, and I was a babbling mess throughout the call.
Ya, it never used to hit me so hard, until after my Dad passed a few years back. The little guy got an extra squeeze from me during that scene

I still do not know if I'm ready to watch that again. It's been a year and a half since my father passed away and I am not sure.

What are we talking about here?

Edit: Like I assume its a movie. That initial post came out crass and I apologize, I just don't know the context of the current disxmcussion.

Field of Dreams ... Moonlight Graham, who was a doctor in Minnesota, having a brief stint in the majors ... and dead fathers

Ohhhh, got it. Thanks. I should have picked up on that, but haven't watched Field of Dreams in years. Thought it was a Big Fish thing.

Struck out swinging on five pitches, pinch-hitting for McCutcheon. Ump called an auto-strike on him to get him down 0-2

They did track down the foul ball he hit when first pitch swinging and gave it to his parents, who were sitting a section or so over from where it landed.

I know rules are rules but imagine spending 13 years in the minors you get called up and in your first at bat you take a few extra seconds to take it all in, and the ump clips you with an automatic strike??

Yeah that was silly. I get that the ump has no discretion there but read the room FFS.

He started today. Went 0 for 3 with a deep fly to CF. Played 3B and the Pirates won.

Hopefully he'll get that first hit soon.

Did he need the extra few seconds to take it after he'd already fouled a pitch off? He's been playing in the minors, so it's not like the pitch clock is new to him. Clay Bellinger got dinged for a violation at the start of his first AB back at Dodger Stadium. If he's not getting leeway, a rookie making his debut, no matter the story involved, probably isn't getting it either.

That's not to say I think the umps should be strict and unyielding. Just pointing out that they've not been giving anyone a break so far.

The ump did give him extra time to get in the box before the first pitch. The ump backed away and gave him time because the crowd was going all out for him.

He was optioned but got to be the extra man for the doubleheader. This is probably his last MLB game but he finally got the first hit. Great moment.
