Haywards is not making the 3rd team. Lebron, Kawhi, Durant, Giannis, and Green are absolute locks. And I can't see Hayward making it over both Butler or George

Hayward signed a contract with Charlotte in 2014. Utah matched but it showed he was willing to leave.
Different situation -- he was an RFA and signed an offer sheet that he was reasonably sure Utah would match. At most, that shows he was willing to leave Utah if they weren't willing to pay him fairly; no one thinks that will be an issue this time around.

Hayward had a hell of a year -- I'd rate him ahead of both of those guys. But Butler plays in Chicago, and George used to be a top-10 guy, so you might be right about how the actual vote will go.

I think the story goes that he asked Utah for the max, they balked. He went out and got a couple max offers (almost got one from CLE until GM Lebron had them trade for Love), then they relented. Most likely not an issue, but players ceetainly can hold grudges sometimes

Well, Hayward had fewer pts, rebs, assts, and stls per game than either of the other two. He did have a hell of a year. The other two probably had better ones though

Sorry, surely this has been covered already, but: is this the first time the Celtics have had the #1 overall pick outside of the time they dealt it to Golden State before the 1980 draft?

Edit: looks like yes. Previous highest Celtics draft picks are Len Bias (2), Kevin McHale, Jaylen Brown, Chauncey Billups, Jim Loscutoff (3), Dave Cowens (4).

No. Fultz is younger and cheaper than Butler and will be under contract longer. Also, Fultz fits what this team needs: size and length at guard while providing big-time scoring at all 3 levels.
Great post. This is the exact point why it should be draft Fultz or bust.
Sure there are unrealistic trades like Anthony Davis, but that probably won't happen.
Yes to Fultz; no to Butler.

Dealer Danny has earned the benefit of the doubt. It's not quite In Danny We Trust, but it's pretty close. If Danny trades the #1, I'll talk myself into it. #1 plus Avery for Butler + #16 is probably about fair value which means some fans on both sides will bitch about it. IMHO, that would make us a contender but YMMV.

Why would anyone want Butler after playing them in round 1? He did not look like a championship difference maker, which is what you need if you're dealing #1, let alone #1 +. Not to mention the knock on effects of not drafting a potential franchise PG & the extra salary you're taking on that prevents you from getting a top FA this year or next.

around the way
Some of the awful trades in this thread are mindboggling. This kid just averaged 23/6/6 as an 18yo in a good conference with zero legit teammates and a bad coach. He has no weaknesses. You don't trade that shit without a very compelling reason.

Edit: not just this thread

This is where I am. I just don't get people wanting to give up #1 plus for Butler.
