As a member of Dr. Gills private practice, I can say he's a great guy who did a terrific job with my knee. I know he's taken a lot of heat in recent years, but I swear by him.

Agreed. Tom is a good guy who met with some bad circumstances.

Damn, I didn't get the job. Weak.

Don't the Red Sox still use Mass General Sports Medicine Department even though they eliminated the position Gill held with the team ?

The Patriots always use MGH's chief of sports medicine as their team doctor.  They are doing the same as Matt Provencher is in that position.

Dr. Provencher is a native New Englander, having grown up in Barrington, NH. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the US Naval Academy where he held several leadership positions, graduated with Distinction and was the Secretary of the Navy Distinguished Graduate. He was also a 4-year Varsity Oarsman on the Naval Academy Crew Team and designated a first-team All-American for two years.

This guy is a Belichick 6th round pick.

Yeah, because they use the MGH sports medicine facilities so it makes sense. And as I mentioned the Red Sox eliminated that position on their team but I believe they still use the MGH sports medicine department.  So in a sense Provencher is sort of their defacto medical director as he heads the department

Matt Provencher is amazing. I've had the good fortune to work with him in the past on issues related to wounded warrior care (he's a Navy guy) and research into everything from injury to limb salvage.

I work closely with quite a few team doctors on the college and pro levels--they are really exceptional individuals who could probably earn a lot more and have more free time if they didn't assume these kinds of responsibilities.

Another vote of confidence in Dr. Gill--he did some phenomenal work on a family member of mine. Not that it's news, but Boston obviously has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to health care.
