Also the 3pt contest never consists of the #1-4 leaders in 3pt shooting percentage. It’s just (usually) a collection of very good 3pt shooters. 40th, 20th, whatever. Plus, who gives a shit?
Agreed with all you said.I get you're asking a good message board question and not otherwise.
That clearly stated, I totally love the team pumping up its guys for these kinds of things and could not care less if they deserve it! I want guys to feel like Celts have their backs, and if comparatively large Celtics fan base gets substantively less-worthy Celtics into competitions and awards that helps the team attract guys in future. So go Celts PR team and we here (and the ever-active NBA podcast world) can debate the actual merits separately.
This guy, for one...Plus, who gives a shit?
He's 35th by made 3Ps if that helps.I appreciate the PR...but does he actually belong? I took a look at this season's numbers and he's ranked 40th

And it's not like the guys above him are low-volume guys.
Also - Grayson Allen is having a great year by the looks...
I wonder if Hauser's agent negotiated some bonus for the 3P shooting contest? Seems like an easy way to try to get his client more money if he outperforms his contract (which he has).I assume things like this might help Hauser get a small shoe deal and help him financially outside of his contract. It’s good to do for your players.
the entire "All-Star Game weekend" festivities have me yelling at clouds, what a complete waste of time. Also the 3pt contest never consists of the #1-4 leaders in 3pt shooting percentage. It’s just (usually) a collection of very good 3pt shooters. 40th, 20th, whatever. Plus, who gives a shit?
How about a consecutive FT contest? Two guys, either end of the court....1st one to miss when other makes is out.Hauser falls well within the margin of error of the top shooters for sure. Dame, who won it in 2023, shot 32% in 2021-22 then 37% the first half of last year. Also Tatum competed, who shot less than 36% the first half of last season.
But that is exactly why he has less of a chance in being select the league seems to be taking more big names in this contest than specialists like Craig Hodges in the early days. The biggest names don't want to risk injury in the dunk contest so the 3-point competition is a good place to get some airtime, with less joint impact and more aerobics.
The campaign doesn't hurt though, and may help get Sam the 7th or 8th slot.
Julius fucking Randle was invited to the 3 point contest last year. .332 for his career, .325 over the last 2.5 seasons, and shot .338 through the first half last year. I am not exaggerating when I say that I could easily come up with 100 players better suited for an invite than that bricklayer. Also the 3pt contest never consists of the #1-4 leaders in 3pt shooting percentage. It’s just (usually) a collection of very good 3pt shooters. 40th, 20th, whatever. Plus, who gives a shit?
They might as well just have the poorest high-volume shooters in their own contest.Julius fucking Randle was invited to the 3 point contest last year. .332 for his career, .325 over the last 2.5 seasons, and shot .338 through the first half last year. I think Scal is talking out his ass here. There have been all sorts of jump shooters to win this thing. The only set shot kind of guy in the recent past was Towns 2 years agobut Scal said on one of the broadcasts that Sam would not be the type to do well as he jumps on every shot so that would slow him down plus hinder him in getting the ball from the rack. Scal said that guys who do well really shoot basically set shots - like Jrue.
Impossible. Scal never says ridiculous things with the certainty of an omnipotent being.I think Scal is talking out his ass here. There have been all sorts of jump shooters to win this thing. The only set shot kind of guy in the recent past was Towns 2 years ago
OH YEAHImpossible. Scal never says ridiculous things with the certainty of an omnipotent being.
Also, his feelings about a player heating up after a basket or a review or momentum or anything really are always 100% correct.
In all seriousness, I adore Scal but he might as well be doing the Ace Ventura bit when saying stuff like that. He ass talks more than just about any color person in the NBA.
You mentioned this in a game thread and now I can't unhear it. Its definitely off putting (unless I am saying the same thing at the same time - the correlation is fairly high).OH YEAH
i die inside every time he says that
Those days are gone forever, over a long time ago. Oh yeah.OH YEAH

I don't get it (being deaf). Those days are gone forever, over a long time ago. Oh yeah.
Steely Dan lyric.I don't get it (being deaf).
Are you picturing Macho Man, or Kool-aid Man?

Actual percentages matter very little from my recollection. Damn, we’ve had players not even in the league anymore participate. Also the 3pt contest never consists of the #1-4 leaders in 3pt shooting percentage. It’s just (usually) a collection of very good 3pt shooters. 40th, 20th, whatever. Plus, who gives a shit?
Not to mention the row of cameramen sitting under the basket to catch footage for the next “Where Amazing Happens” ad.Benches and the first row of seats are too close to the floor. But the owners aren't giving up a row of lower level seats so these type of injuries are the result
I was actually relieved to see that he stepped on someone's foot, rather than just some non-contact thing, which always screams "torn something" to me.It didn’t look horrible live but he didn’t return to the bench I don’t think. Hoping they were just being cautious.
Yeah. Assuming he's OK, that's the worst part.Hauser likely breaks Klay’s record of 14 three’s in a game tonight without the injury. His teammates would have know what’s up and looked for him to get it and the Wizards certainly weren’t going to put up much resistance. Perfect storm. Too bad.
SOSH strikes again!Just ran into his sister, who works with me. She was at the game last nite and says he's OK. Just rolled his ankle.

Meanwhile, no report on Sam's sister, who is probably recovering from being run into by @128SOSH strikes again!
Unreal Office HauserJust ran into his sister, who works with me. She was at the game last nite and says he's OK. Just rolled his ankle.
Block or Charge?Meanwhile, no report on Sam's sister, who is probably recovering from being run into by @128
What quarter was it, which team is ahead, by how much, what was the spread and how much did the ref have on the game?Block or Charge?
But 2nd on his own team, which is amazing.43.9% on the season. 5th in the NBA
the funny thing is if you said at the beginning of the season that Hauser would shoot 44% from 3 the season, I'd say yea that makes sense. But 2nd on his own team, which is amazing.
It’s almost as if the quality of the shots a player gets has some bearing on his shooting %.the funny thing is if you said at the beginning of the season that Hauser would shoot 44% from 3 the season, I'd say yea that makes sense.
If you said Jrue would and have the highest Corner3% ever we'd have laughed. I could see him smashing that can't shoot in the playoffs meme that circulated after the trade
Al Horford has crept up to 42% and 15th in the NBA
Indeed. Open3s, C&S3s, Corner3s, PaintTouch3s, and LeftsideTatum3s are all boosting the teams' 3Pt%It’s almost as if the quality of the shots a player gets has some bearing on his shooting %.
Yes, particularly now that they're running actions specifically to get him movement shots, and now that other teams are getting more and more desperate to shut down those shots....
IF a JAY drive to the hoop draws a double & open 3s,
does the threat of a Hauser 3pt shot open up driving lanes for the JAYS (& open 3s for teammates)?
Hauser is here next year on a team option. Many if not most of the time these extensions get worked out because Hauser is only making 2 million next year.Hauser is the guy I want signed more than Holiday or Kornet, from the bench. He also feels like the guy most likely to be signed away for a huge contract.
