A few more moves:

  • Seattle signed South Korea NT center back Kim Kee-hee from Shanghai Shenhua. Chad Marshall is getting old and Roman Torres will miss time for the WC, so he's depth for now but will probably start a ton of games.
  • LAFC picked up 20 year old Colombian DM Eduard Atuesta from Independiente Medellin. A much-needed signing for their roster, which is still way too small for some reason. Supposedly they have a number of players lined up and ready to be signed, but many are more back-of-the-roster types. Atuesta may initially compete for time with RB/CM Omar Gaber, since Beitashour is there at RB.
  • Philly finally signed a #10, Czech midfielder Borek Dockal. He's on loan from Henan Jianye and has never played at an especially high level (Rosenborg, Sparta Prague) so we'll see how he does.
  • Chicago bought Whitecaps midfielder Tony Tchani for a modest amount of TAM. He's a solid but unspectacular MLS player who will give the Fire some needed depth behind McCarty and Schweinsteiger. They really need some depth on the wing, where they are very thin.
  • Houston signed two draft picks: goalkeeper Michael Nelson and forward Mac Steeves. Steeves is from Needham and if he can hack it in MLS, he has some potential to be one of those minor cult hero big lumbering #9 types. He's listed at 6'4", 208. Steeves was part of Providence College's unlikely run to the NCAA final four in 2014, but was derailed with an injury in 2016 and was a redshirt senior last fall.
  • Minnesota also signed a pair of picks: right back Carter Manley and center back Wyatt Omsberg. Omsberg is the first MLS player from Maine since, I think, Roger Levesque retired in 2012 and the first active pro since 2015.
  • Montreal signed midfielder Ken Krolicki, a pick out of Michigan State.
  • NYCFC signed goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell, who was once a backup on the US U20s a couple of cycles ago.

FC Dallas out of CCL on away goals after an unconvincing 3-2 win at home.

NYRB and Seattle are both through to the QF on the strength of 2-0 and 4-0 wins respectively.

Seattle vs Chivas
NYRB vs Tijuana
Toronto vs Tigres
America vs Tauro

Tigres-Toronto is the marquee matchup. Chivas and Tijuana aren’t all that strong right now, maybe one of the other two MLS teams will get through.

(They’ll blow it.)
