Ugh, this is not good.

"Didi Gregorius has a hematoma of the subcapsular muscle according to Joe Girardi. Yanks will do more tests tomorrow."

If talent was the only thing that mattered, Gleyber Torres would be NY's starting SS Opening Day assuming Didi isn't ready, but I doubt they will add him to the 40 man unless Didi's injury is severe, and then maybe.

So maybe Ruben Tejada?

Oh, right, and Twitter reminds me that Tyler Wade is an option also, although again not sure if they want him on the 40 man yet or not.

We need some kind of $10 doctor in here, because I have no idea how serious this injury is. Torres couldn't possibly come up this soon, could he? In a pinch, couldn't Castro move to SS if it were easier to find a replacement 2B?

edit: to be clear, I don't know what kind of depth the Yankees have at 2B in AA/AAA, it was just a thought, since they have a guy who recently played a lot of SS already in the majors.

RIght, they have Refsnyder too to play second. They actually do have a bunch of options, it's just a question of whether they want to add Wade or Torres to the 40 man yet, and obviously a question of how serious it is. The quick impression I get is that it is probably 4 weeks or so minimum, and obviously a lot longer if it's more serious.

There's going to come a point soon that it's only minor leaguers in this thing.

OK, if this is accurate (Hoch is a good reporter, but you never know with injuries until guys are actually back), very good news:

Didi Gregorius has a strain, no baseball activity for two weeks, will not be ready for Opening Day.

Cashman thinks Didi will be out about six weeks, man that sucks. He says that Torres isn't an option and it will be someone internally: Wade, Kozma, Castro, Torreyes, Tejada. They could move Castro back to SS and play Refsnyder at 2B, but that is a really weak defensive middle infield. Torreyes I think will be exposed if he plays every day, Wade might be the best answer and leave Castro at 2B.

Have they released Cito Culver yet? Still can't fathom the idiocy of that wasted first-round draft pick in 2010.

Actually Culver started to hit last year and is still really good defensively, but they probably feel like Kozma is a similar player except with major league experience. Culver and Donovan Solano are other options, NY has plenty of choices.

Didi started his throwing program today. He does that for two weeks, then hopefully on to minor league rehab games.

Didi will be starting rehab games Friday, playing for A ball Tampa.
