Did Middleton's shot remind some of you of Garfield Heard?

For some of us baby boomers and generation Xers that shot had memories of June 4th 1976. Considered the greatest playoff game in NBA history. Heard had 2 seconds or a little more to shoot but Middleton's shot??? OMG! Of course we all thought the game was over when Terry hit that shot just like we thought the game was over when Hondo hit the running jumper. I will always be against the ball being put at half court after a time out instead of at the end of the court. I like the high school and college rule better. Anyway, what a game! GO CELTICS!

But he did the shot off in time though. It left his fingertips then the clock went off. At the end of regulation or maybe the end of the first OT,in that memorable game Paul Silas called a timeout but they didn't have any left. Cowens stepped in front of him to block the ref. from seeing him. I believe Earl Strom was the ref. Many Celtic haters believed he may have saw it and was afraid to call it because he was afraid of Red and the Gahden crowd.

Except that it isn't humanly possible. The fastest jumpshooter in the history of the league can't get off a full shot in that amount of time, much less one where he sets, double clutches, and fires off a shot in full motion. Hence my '72 Olympics joke.

When ESPN Sports Science did a segment on this a few years ago using Kyle Korver (who is still a quicker shooter than Middleton), the best he could do on an in-bounds play, when the ball hit him in shooting motion, was .7 seconds.

A friend of mine was guarding Tate George. He was given express orders to not foul. He was told, the only way UConn wins is with a foul. Then when the shot went in, his coach went off on him. The other side of a famous play is that, as a 19 year old kid it was thrown at him over and over.

The fastest I ever saw was that miracle shot of Jeff Green's a few years ago where the shot hit him in the pocket on the way up, and he still barely got it off on .6 seconds. And I gave thanks to the timekeeper even then.

I think you have your facts all wrong on this one. The Sports Science episode was with Jaon Kapono, and he managed to get a shot off in .22 seconds. 5 minutes into the video

Scott Burrell played minor league baseball for the Blue Jays for a few years but ended up playing and winning a ring with the Jordan Bulls. My brother faced him as a pitcher in high school and it was a man against boys situation.. Sorry for the hijack.

The three announcers for that game were Brent Musburger, Barry and Ref Mendy Rudolph. Brent and Rick were good but Rudolph was bad. All he did was say what a great job the refs were doing, LOL.

And it wouldn't have been a 3 point shot like some people think. Heard was just under what would be the 3 point line today.

I didn't realize Burrell played 8 years in the NBA. His two best years were with the Hornets in 95 and 96. He averaged 11 points per game in 95 and 13 in 96.
