Right, they are allowed to practice with them each week and get to their liking, so obviously there are differences, and the rules allow for them. Another difference may have come from the fact that the Patriots had the ball way more than the Colts and were exposed to more wear and weather. I can't imagine heavy rain is good for a football either.

What about the fact, mentioned just a couple of times above, that each QB likes their balls to be rubbed and handled in a different way before the game?
Why would that change the inflation of the balls?

They handle them throughout the week and they are allowed a range of inflation. Some QBs like it more inflated than others, hence there would be differences. There was a playoff game earlier with Green Bay where Aikman spent a minute talking about how Rodgers liked his, well, there's no way around this, balls to be handled in a certain way because the grip was better for him. There are going to be differences.

Well, if we consider that each team will have their own set of footballs, and that there is an acceptable range of pressure within which the teams could function, it's completely plausible that the two sets of footballs began with different pressures, especially if each team's ballhandlers have different preferences. Add in the game wear-and-tear and the weather, differences could be pronounced.

A lot of unknowns here.

I assume the Colts already brought their balls back home. Unless they didn't, which would suggest they had a hand in getting this matter out.

Disband the Patriots. Unseat Obama. Indy Fans and Birthers form unholy alliance and march simultaneously on D.C. and Foxborough. Romney representatives ask for three million votes. Colts demand thirty-eight additional points. Lie halfway around the world…Truth in process of getting its pants on. "It's 10:45 PM—Do you know where your critical faculties are?" It's too bad The Donald is such a big fan and friend of Kraft.  We could really use his investigative expertise, energy, and resources for a case like this.

Whoever said the Colts didn't alert the nfl to this has their heads buried in the sand.

@MutWEEI: WCVB's @LynchieWCVB reported it was the Colts who alerted to NFL to the under-inflated footballs. We'll have the sound for you next WEEI

What do you bet it was Jim Irsay, since Kravitz was reportedly his mouthpiece?

One thing I seem to remember from that sequence is that Anderson waited a bit and was ready to go because the ball boy apparently wasn't around yet, and he waived them to just get on with it, but then the ball boy showed so they changed balls. So, Walt was ready to go with the "bad" ball if it was going to take much more time, so he couldn't have been too concerned.

That's possible. On the other hand, maybe the pre-game instruction to the officials was make sure to put away the ball the Pats wanted to start the 3rd quarter with (as that would seem to be the one with most opportunity to be altered without anyone seeing during halftime).

So Jackson gave the intercepted ball to Pagano who called upstairs to the GM who called the on field officials. Irsay I am sure called Kravitz to get it out.

Let's not forget that the Pats play in Indy in 2015.  I imagine that we might see an FU touchdown or three in that game.

....and after the ball had been swapped, the Patriots beat the living shit out of the Colts, way more than prior to halftime.  Thanks, Irsay!

So they swapped balls after halftime. Oh yeah, that's when the Patriots erupted.

This guy just made an interception in the biggest game he's ever played in, and he's worried about the ball's inflation? Talk about getting into their heads.

"This is one of those integrity of the game, competitive advantage type of deals. Certainly it had nothing to do with the final outcome," said Kravitz on Eyewitness News at 5:00 pm. "We did talk to Andrew Luck, and D'Qwell Jackson, who had that interception. They said they did not see a difference with the footballs. I'm not sure how they could, to be perfectly honest with you.”

So, two things seem to be emerging. First, this is whiner crybaby stuff from the losers. Second, they played at least half the game with everyone on notice of the complaint.

You know, there are probably things that happen in every game that teams ask to be looked into by one team or the other. And 99% of those never see the light of day ... because they don't get leaked to a chummy media member.

If the Colts' staff thought something was amiss with a football, they have the right to have it checked. Pagano, probably, thought it would just be a run of the mill situation. But someone decided to tell Kravitz and, given the bullshit the Pats have been through since Mangini, it exploded.

On the play before the Jackson interception, Blount ran for 2 yards to pick up a first down.  When he stood up, he dropped the ball from waist level and it bounced a certain way before coming to a stop.  On the Colts' ensuing drive, Arrington picked up the ball that Fleener "fumbled" in the end zone and dropped it from waist level.  Arrington's ball bounced MUCH like Blount's did.  CASE CLOSED.

Given what has come out, he purposely put Jackson into that answer in an attempt to cover for him

Or Kravitz just accurately relayed what he was told. The Polians have departed, but their stink lingers on in Indianapolis.

So the only person to "notice" the issue was a Colts equipment guy, and everyone else was just reporting it up the chain according to latest reports.  Isn't it possible HE deflated the ball hoping to get the Pats in trouble thinking the refs would ask to see that specific ball? Also, even if it's not, him simply saying it is could force the coaches to call the GM who called the league who told the refs to pull 1 ball out for testing.   This just gets better and better!

Exactly what in the flying fuck does this have to do with politics?

This is so damn stupid. The NFL does not want a world where QBs are throwing K Balls. The only person who should care about the condition of the Pats game balls is Tom Brady. I say this as someone who, despite thinking the world of BB (greatest coach of all time) roots against New England more than half the time and believes their first Lombardi belongs in Alameda. I can't believe Irsay & Grigs are actually pushing this with the league.

Nothing, just equating those who are determined to believe these allegations because they hate the Patriots bear a mindset (on this issue) pretty similar to racist birthers in the sense of bias creating belief. Nothing more. It seemed pretty clear to me.

I think this is another reflection of how far the public has gone from reality.
Pretty sad, too..anybody that has ever played a sport with an inflatable ball knows that there is a range of acceptable pressure and different folks like it different ways. All the ex players and coaches comments have confined that. It's the news playing dumb for clicks and the NFL playing dumb OR not understanding how dumb it's fans are about the actual mechanics of playing the sport.
