The refs are incompetent. We've seen this all year long. Yet somehow the Wells Report was able to exclude "human factors" as playing any role whatsoever in deflategate. Even more incredibly, the media bought it.
That writer, Keven Van Valkenburg, sent out a couple tweets about DFG last year:
When people pointed out those tweets today he admitted he's done a complete 180.

Wow. He flat out says "I was part of the problem". Good on him. If mort weren't battling cancer I'm sure he would be right there with him twitting similar sentiments.

He makes an excellent point about Twitter "weaponizing emotion." These guys get partial, contradictory, and incorrect "facts" passed along to them, and they react based on that bad info, and all of a sudden their public Twitter reaction causes the issue to snowball even more.
I think he problem with Twitter for these guys (aside from simple ethics and lack of legwork for some) is that they see tweeting something as "just a tweet" and not a serious or actual piece of journalism. What they don't seem to understand is that a tweet can reach far more people than any medium they've used before and spread instantaneously. They're far more likely in 2016 to cause a firestorm with bad info in 140 characters than a long form in SI or whatever.
Oh, I think they know all that. They just go with "blame it on twitter" when it blows up on them.

Reading that Times article got me all riled up again...Kraft never should have accepted the draft pick penalty. Brady being suspended was actually the lesser harm.
I dunno - being one game from the super bowl is a pretty good outcome on the "no suspension" front
I actually doubt that will be true, much more likely they'll be 13.0, but probably not a big deal as long as they're not over 15 PSI.

To be fair to me (and dabomb), I was looking for "New York Times" article. Edmunddantes quoted the actual writer's name...maybe that is why dabombdig missed it too. Or maybe he's just an idiot like me. Either way, it's a great read. And one to email to your friends who are Patriot haters.

I thought the same at first, but then re-read the section on Spygate and I think the author is merely characterizing how the other 31 (less successful) owners/teams feel about Spygate, as opposed to legitimizing the nonsense. And he does so somewhat derisively and subtly.
He also describes the "destruction of evidence" ordered by Goodell as a possible cover-up favor to the Pats without mentioning the AT LEAST as likely possibility that Goodell had the evidence destroyed to cover the tracks of his major over-reaction to the infraction (which is his established m.o. at this point).

They fucking showed the media one of the goddamn videos and it was as tedious and boring as you'd expect.
Chris Kluwe is a brilliant logical human being with the most inside take on the game of football. This article a year later is poignant, relevant and timeless.
