Well I imagine he would lose a little bit of conditioning and muscle by spending a month in jail, specifically the diet which will more likely plump him up than keep him all jacked and muscled up.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
It's also possible that a deal will be reached for Dennard to serve his sentence after the season ends.  Depends on the judge/prosecutor.  Some have a "too bad about collateral consequences" attitude, some will be accommodating.

Especially if Dennard kicks some money towards charity or voluntarily offers to pay a larger fine.  (The last depends on jurisdiction; I'm not sure if it's kosher in MA, or even if it's kosher in FL, but that sort of thing happens all the time here - you ask for an accommodation of some kind (which must be legal) and show "good faith" by donating money to a legitimate state charity.  Since you donate the money before asking, it's not seen as a quid pro quo.)

I fully expect him to serve 30 days.  With the receivers, the Slater injury (as "reported" by DRS in the special teams thread, out 2-4 weeks), the defense clearly has to many good players.

I'm on the other side on this.....I'm expecting a continuance or some type of arrangement that does not interfere with him earning a living (as in missing game checks).

Okay.  Seems to me the Judge is giving him a few months to keep his nose clean (again).

Hire him a driver and life coach.  I hear Tim Tebow is available.

I really hope that means if he keeps his nose completely clean his sentence will be community service and extended probation.

12/5 sentencing?

Bob, get your friend Jurrah on the phone re 24/7 babysitting.

Seriously, he's been given every break. Smooth move to cop to probation violation, to give the other side something while maintaining credibility. But there is no mistaking we are firmly in "three strike" territory.

Wow, it's up to The Sheriff, but if Dennard actually stays smart this time, he may not miss one game. I'm thinking the facts here were not as bad as they could have been, and the judge's decision reflects that.

In other word: YESSSSSSSSSSSS.

Maybe, but I suspect that there may be proof problems and that this may be rolled into a single disposition if he stays out of trouble.

I don't think they are doing the Pats any favors. I think everyone realizes this guy has two dramatically different life paths and everyone is trying really hard to keep him on the promising one.

Assuming this is his first DUI, that's very unlikely.

I also seem to remember that there are some factual questions about the arrest (the breathalyzer was malfunctioning?), which -- especially with Dennard's legal counsel -- could prevent a conviction.

Do you know who PFF has as their fourth ranked cornerback so far this year based on their regular stats?

Yup.

Do you know who PFF has ranked as their #1 cornerback based on their "signature stats"?

Yup.

Out of CB's with 50% of snaps played, he has:

The best % of balls caught in his zone (25%)

The best QB NFL rating against (10.9)

The best "cover snaps/reception" at 29.5, meaning he allows a reception once every 30 times in coverage

The fifth least amount of yards given up (45 yards, albeit on 2 big plays)

The 11th best "yards/cover snap"

All of this should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Small sample size, who is playing opposite him on the field, etc. Still, he's performed well in the early part of the season and gives a lot of reason for optimism. Fingers crossed that one of our guys finally keeps his fucking head on straight.

Yes, and from what I'm reading on twitter (caveat emptor), Dennard blew a .107 in the field and a .153 at the station. So he's fucked.

Both allegedly on partial samples, but if that's accurate it's a problem because no one is going to buy the idea that he just happened to run into two malfunctioning breathalazyers rather than that he was trying not to blow too hard.

I'm more sanguine than most on his chances.  I don't know how things work  in Nebraska and it certainly could be different but no one is in a hurry to throw employed guys with good careers and good lawyers into jail for what amounts to a bar fight and a possible DUI.

Somebody needs to square this with reports at the time that he blew nothing in the field.

Further, this would suggest that he's a menace behind the wheel. If I were the prosecution, I would have fought today's disposition tooth and nail, and I were the judge I would be concerned about having blood on my hands by keeping him on the street the next 3 months

So far so good.

Really hope it gets through that he is out of chances and isnt getting the benefit of the doubt on anything remotely close to a jump ball going forward.  No clue if it will though.  From a strict Pats fan standpoint, I wouldnt mind seeing a 30 day sentence in the offseason to reinforce the point.

He's been absolutely awesome on the field, has played a fair amount of aggressive man coverage and acquitted himself nicely.  Starting secondary is right now the best unit on this team outside of quarterback, absolutely cannot afford anymore fuck ups.

Sure but almost 50% greater?  That doesn't add up.  If it moved from .107 to .110 I could buy that, .107 to .153 is a huge increase considering he was no longer drinking at the time.

I am frankly surprised that so many people were expecting him to miss time during the season from this.  I hate to be the guy that just says, this is the way things work for pro-athletes, but ummm this is the way things work from pro-athletes (I mean Donte Stallworth got 30 days for killing a guy; I know there were extenuating circumstances there, but there aren't many comps for his).

But honestly I'm not sure that Dennard is actually even getting any special treatment here.  I'm no expert and I don't think people track these types of statistics but I'm not 100% convinced that a normal Joe Off the Street wouldn't have gotten the same considerations that Dennard did.

I thought the breathalyzer device was automated so that it would not even yield a reading if the person didn't blow hard enough? If true and was why Dennard flunked the test, that doesn't square with the twitter bit (shocking, I know)? On the other hand, Dennard's credibility in recounting the events may be up for question.

Has anyone heard about the league disciplining him for his role in the Jets fiasco? Felger and Mazz just said that he was in the pile throwing cheap shots at people. If thats true, this kid is a fucking monster huge bonehead.

I saw him get punched at least 2x by Ferguson.  It's possible he threw some in retaliation but all I saw was Denard on the ground in the scrum and Ferguson raining punches. That was when the ref tried to remove D'brick and he shoved the ref aside, causing the ejection.

He (Denard) easily could have thrown some the camera's didn't pick up.

He got hot after he got headbutted by 66.  Cant tell if he tried to throw a punch later or got pushed unexpectedly by Vellano.  Tried to start later with Ducasse which would seem...not smart.

EDIT: Also wouldnt be surprised if Talib is injured after watching the replay on the coaches cam and seeing that he missed practice.  He grimaced and sort of hopped away, thought it was in celebration, but he might have tweaked something.

BB literally had to wrestle Ridley off whatever Jet he was tied up with.

New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard received a continuance on a hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8, in relation to an arrest this past July on suspicion of driving under the influence, as the hearing will now be held on Nov. 13, according to an administrator with the Lancaster County Court in Nebraska.

The arrest occurred on July 11 and Dennard admitted at a recent hearing that he violated the terms of his probation from a previous arrest that took place just days before he was drafted in April of 2012.

Dennard will also be in court on Dec. 5 to figure out whether or not he will receive any additional jail time for violating his probation; he is currently scheduled to serve 30 days in jail in March of 2014.

The new time for the hearing takes place in the week following the team's bye and on the Wednesday leading up to their Monday Night Football matchup with the Carolina Panthers

Well that's a really confusing tweet.
When you read the article he is looking for a continuance to wait for sentencing until after the season.
He is not asking to continue with the sentencing hearing tomorrow.

It's just jargon -- "continue" in this context means "postpone."

From the article, it sounds like Dennard is going before the same judge who sentenced him to just 30 days in jail for assaulting a cop (iirc, 6 months is the usual sentence in that jurisdiction for such an offense) and allowed him to postpone serving that sentence until the 2014 offseason.

On one hand, that could bode well for Dennard staying on the field the rest of the season, as the judge was willing in the past to go to some lengths not to disrupt Dennard's football career. She's also likely more attuned to the questionable nature of Dennard's initial conviction than a new judge would be. On the other, she might be pissed that he violated his probation (which Dennard has already admitted) so soon after she was lenient with him.

I'm optimistic that he'll be allowed to play out the season, but I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I'm fairly confident his jail time will be suspended, but speaking of suspensions, the Sheriff is on line 1. GFD.
