This wasn’t a professional operation with Mission Impossible tech. I don’t see why this is an implausible scenario. They pointed him out, the scout or the shooter could’ve misunderstood which the other pointed out.

Even on this board no one is recognizing David Ortiz from the back, out of context, at night, as they’re about to commit a murder. Give me a break.

Yup precisely. People above were posting like “how could that police story be true, everyone in the DR would recognize Big Papi” and all I was saying is there are tons of plausible ways someone could not recognize Ortiz if his mind was on other things

I'm confused: How does Ortiz fighting crime and hooking up with drug kingpins' girlfriends tie into this again?

Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

Ed: also, from this thread-

I realize the bolded is probably rhetorical, but there a likely things that we are not yet aware of. This appears to be a deliberate attempt to murder Ortiz, there has to be a reason for it.

this is the truth, I have a mistaken-identity issue on at least 30-40% of the murders I commit.

Ok, I'm starting to come around on this being the real story. Guy ordered a hit on his cousin for turning him in to the cops on drug charges. Incompetent hitman shoots David while he's sitting at the table with the snitch. Could have happened.

David is seemingly going to be fine, but can you imagine what bad luck he had in this situation. 1. He gets shot by mistake 2. His wife( who you are trying to make things work with) finds out that you bought your side piece an 85k ride. Yikes

Do we know for certain that the image of the check was even legit?

At some point on a news site, I saw an image of Ortiz and the supposed mistress side-by-side, but it was one of the worst photoshop jobs I've ever seen.

The video of her fighting at the hospital seems real. There's smoke, if not fire.

What’s going on with this? Is anyone else surprised we haven’t heard anything from Papi? I would have figured that by now he would have posted a video or come out to Fenway to throw the first pitch out or something... seems off.

I’ve been under the assumption that the feds, or someone has David’s ear, and is telling him to lay low, in case there is more to the shooting than mistaken identity

He was shot at point blank range and had internal organs removed. Throwing a first pitch??
No shit. It's barely been a month since the shooting. The guy's still in the hospital. Maybe, just maybe, he's not yet up to making a public appearance, video or otherwise.

Ok well maybe not that. But we haven’t even heard a statement yet from him or anything yet right? It’s all been through his wife/Red Sox. It just seems odd that there is complete silence. I would have figured he would have wanted to get back out there in public view as quickly as possible. Heck, people were thinking he was going to be part of a video for the game 7 of the SCF, which was a few days after the shooting. I’m just surprised there hasn’t been a peep.

It's obviously a bit concerning that he's still in the hospital without any updates. However, he may have been advised to simply stay mostly incommunicado in order to help his own healing process. The minute he makes a statement the media will be all over it, dissecting every word and reporting on the various rumors that surrounded his shooting.

I'm guessing there will be a brief appearance on social media with an announcement when he is released from the hospital. But even after that it wouldn't surprise if he's advised to lay low for a while afterwards.
