I needed a couple hours to hose myself off. Holy shit. This is awesome. Great work by Ziegler & McDaniels. Carr is now throwing to a top 2 wideout, a top 3 TE and the best slot receiver to ever grace the league.
I know you're giddy, and I can appreciate that. But holy crap. LOL.

The 4 teams getting some guaranteed division losses probably prevents it.
Not sure why people are forgetting this; they are going to beat up on each other, is 3-3 for each team in the division out of the realm of possibility?

Not to mention the AFC West plays the NFC West this year, not exactly the march of the tomato cans.

Anyone check out the Chiefs schedule? AFC West, NFC West, AFC South, Bills, Bengals, Bucs.

Good luck with that one.

As much as I think this is hilarious and I’m laughing a bit at both sides, I kind of get it from LV side. Denver’s window might be fairly short, but Mahomes and Herbert will presumably be top 6ish QBs in the league for the foreseeable future. Don’t really blame McDaniels and Ziegler for feeling like they might as well go all in now because realistically they’re not gonna be there in 4 years without competing relatively fast and the division is going to be tough the whole time.

Yeah here's the thing to me. The Raiders could absolutely win the AFC West next year. They have a good balanced team. If they tried to tear it down, what is the timeline.... until you hit on a QB in the draft? That could be half a decade or more.

Yep all 4 teams could finish first or fourth, Chiefs included.

After watching what the Rams just pulled off, anyone calling this move crazy is, themselves, crazy.

JMcD learned that time flies, and winning games from day 1 is a good idea.

If I were a coach this is absolutely the way I would play it. Josh knows this is probably his last chance and he's in a tough division, and isn't coming into a re-build situation where he can survive a couple of 5 win seasons.

But, man, that's a lot of money for a 30 year old WR who has spent his entire career in an offense with the best or 2nd best QB in the league. I think this ends up being a massive fail from the Raiders perspective, but I guess we will see.

I don’t know if it will be a massive fail because Adams and Waller on the field at the same time is pretty spooky, for at least a few years.

Adams also isn’t a one dimensional guy that relies solely on his athleticism and he’s been pretty durable throughout his career.

Eventually it will be an albatross of a contract, but for at least a few seasons, it’s worth the price in an AFC West arms race.

I’m so consumed by my Aaron Rodgers schadenfreude that I don’t have mental capacity to process what a terrible move this is by the Raiders.

Guess you’ll get your first round draft pick WR now, Aaron…
He's going to call his good friend Joe to get some legal advice as to whether he can void the contract he just signed.

That's not a QB contract unless we are living in 2019. It's a solid $10M/per less than QB contracts. The number 10ish QB in the NFL just signed a deal for significantly more than what the #1 or #2 WR in the NFL did.
$28.25M is within the top 10 for QBs in 2022 according to overthecap.

https://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/2022/

It’s a hell of a gamble - a high risk play that has potential for high reward. Will be interesting to see how much is guaranteed. I’m guessing the back half of the contract is fiction. I hope it plays out well for the Raiders except when they are matched up against the Patriots.

Wide Receivers can fall off of a cliff fast, maybe at 30, maybe at 32, if you are not Jerry Rice you stop being an elite receiver sometime in your early 30s, pretty much without exceptions. It is just a massive risk. If Adams was 26 it would be a different story.

It's a little apples and oranges. You're comparing 2022 QB cap numbers to the AAV on the Adams deal (so Josh Allen only has a $16mn 2022 cap number, but his deal is for $43mn a year, for example; or Dak, $20mn cap number, $40mn AAV), several of those deals are now a couple years old, and you have a lot of QBs still on rookie contracts or franchise tags. Kirk Cousins just signed a 2 year/$66mn extension (cap number is kept lower by two void years). The baseline for new QB deals is easily in the 30s now.

Personally I read it as the tweeter mocking dumb patriots twitter-verse who would constantly complain about specific calls Josh made that frustrated them.
Could be...much funnier that way.

Guilty. Will be interesting to see what Adams’ cap numbers are.

I don't think he gives a shit. He pulled a power play to get a massive deal into his 40s and it worked. No one really likes the guy, the whole "oh it pains me to see my teammates not get the respect they deserve on their way out" spiel was aimed at dumbass media types who just want a chance to cheer against management no matter the context. Dude got his bag and now he's happy.

I bit on it too and googled the LVR roster after saying “he can’t be talking about Renfrow — did they sign someone?”. Lol

how is denver window short as a broncos fan i am more worried about vegas and LAC than kc wilson is 32 he should play at a high level for 5-7 years and look at it like this kelce only has 1-2 years of etile TE play left once hill loses his speed he will fade quick loseing mattieu will hurt that def

LAC very talented but their coach will go for it too agg and they alwals have a lot of inj
vegas i say denver was 19 pts from 11-6 well vegas was about 12 pts from 7-10 as well if u stop their pass rush u can throw on them they will score more but let me tell u MCD will want a new qb and if the raiders miss the playoffs he will push for his type of qb i e jimmy g

on denver they have a top 10 RB a top 25 WR in jerdy plus stuonn will take a step up wilson will make the o-line better def will still be top 10 was 3rd in scoreing last year plus their 3 oddball games are winable NYJ @CAR @BALT if denver can go 3-3 in the west they shouild get to 10-7

Did Pats fans irrationally and nonsensically love Troy Brown the way Raider fans love Renfrow? He’s the closest comp I can think of.

The deal is really 3/$67M, so $22.5 per over the first three years and then room to mess around with the contract deep into his 30s and allow Adams & the agent to say the got the biggest WR deal ever, at least until the Hill extension later this summer.

I don’t think you’re necessarily wrong, J-man. I’m a huge Russ fan and I’m very high on the Broncos this year - certainly among the teams I wouldn’t hate seeing go all the way and one of the handful I believe has a good chance.

I’m hedging my bets a bit with the small window thing. I feel like we know what Mahomes is at this point and we can expect him to be very very good for a long time even if we get some shitty hero ball in the occasional big game. Herbert has a bigger range of outcomes, but he’s entering his prime and I don’t think he needs to improve much beyond his 2021 self to make the Chargers a perennial playoff team (and he’ll be cheap for 2/3 more years, too).

Which brings us to Russ and Denver. I’m relatively confident the injury and growing incompatibility with Pete are most of the reason for his recent struggles. I think he still goes into this year and a couple more years after that with an attainable ceiling of NFL MVP. But at 32 and coming off a bad year, I think the chance he’s holding Denver back by say 2026 is higher than it is for Mahomes and Herbert and their respective teams.

It’s an odds thing for me: Russ could be good through an entire followup contract and it wouldn’t shock me, I’m just not ready to bet on it until we see if he can fully rebound.
