I don't care if you think Davante Adams is a reincarnated Jerry Rice, giving him that contract and giving up a 1st rounder plus to do it is dumb, dumb, dumb.

lets see how much real money it is.
He's the best WR in football by a good margin, they have a lot of cap space and their QB is on a relative bargain deal.

That is a TON to give up. Wow. It looks like an awful deal on its face.

Adams wouldn’t be taking it if it wasn’t huge. And how good will he be without Rodgers? We’ll see, but goodness.

The important things to come out of this are:

1. Every AFC West division game will be must watch TV.

2. Aaron Rodgers LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLZZZZZ

Agreed. Combination of trade + contract will go
down in history. Raiders will finish last next 2 years and he will be cut. This is so, so, so, so, bad.
Agreed, but if you're GB why convince Rodgers to come back and then leave him without his best WR? Draft picks aren't going to help if they're trying to win next year.

Adams turns 30 in December. Thought he was younger. Steep price to pay but, whatever, Josh probably won’t be around for the cap fall out anyways.

I feel comfortable with that yes. His combination of skill, production and consistency is unmatched over the last 4 years, he's just consistently at the top in a way nobody else really has been. Kupp may have had the better season last year, but Adams was better (often considerably) the 3 before, and that's similar for other guys who had good years in that stretch.

I think Josh McD looked at the Raiders and realized that the Rams' "don't worry about the future -- championship banners fly forever" approach was probably the right one for them. Not sure what he's going to do next year when Carr wants to get paid, but I guess he'll cross that bridge when he comes to it.

Unless you were going to pick the next Tim Tebow in the first round, in which case you're better off overpaying an actually-good player instead....

The thing about that is the Rams went out and got a good quarterback, and they had a better team to start with, and this is shaping up to be an even tougher division, to say nothing of the rest of the AFC.

Carr is better than Goff, but I don't know.

Unless Adams told GB he was definitely not signing with them, this is a pretty weird move by them given their window. As for LV, guess they’re going to try to outscore teams, not stop ‘em.

You can make an argument he's been the best WR in the league over the last few years, but he's had the first or second best QB throwing to him, and he turns 30 this year. Pretty safe bet that he won't be considered the best WR in the league over the next 3-4 years.

I’m so consumed by my Aaron Rodgers schadenfreude that I don’t have mental capacity to process what a terrible move this is by the Raiders.

Guess you’ll get your first round draft pick WR now, Aaron…

All 4 AFC West teams could make the playoffs in theory now with the 3 WCs.

And in actuality... who would stop that from happening? Really just the Colts and Ravens, at a glance...

He may be the best by a big margin. Or. he may be the top tier WR who plays with the best QB. I guess we will find out.
I’d bet on the latter. He is HoF, but on the Reggie Wayne / Marvin Harrison level. Not the Randy Moss / Jerry Rice level.

One thing I'd say for the Raiders... they had the best defense in that division last year, and have a good case that they'll have the best defense in the division again this year. Getting Adams and upgrading Edge and CB makes them better. They're right in the mix with anyone else at this point.

GB will draft a great receiver and Rodgers will still put up huge numbers this year. Mark it down.

It's an overpay, but I'd much much much rather have Adams, even at that cost, then Allen Robinson. Gotta pay for talent.

What does McDaniels care if he's cut in two years? If the deal works - Carr and McDaniels and others will be there either way. If it doesn't, they won't.

The 4 teams getting some guaranteed division losses probably prevents it.
Also Titans/Colts are presumably good again.

Still, it's theoretically possible and will be the most likely it's ever been with that division. It'd be funny if it happens.

Well at least McDaniels has an excellent track record in his personnel decisions from his prior head coaching gig.
while Mcd gets patrial credit for the 2013 denver super bowl team

his moves in 09 really hurt in 10 11 12
1 in hindsight trading cutler was right but orten was a so-so for his off
2 his 09 draft was 1 of the top 10 worst draft classes of all time
Ayers and moreno were just ave at best tradeing a 10 1st for a 5-8 nickel cb who was out of the leauge in 3 years A Smith was his name and drafting a 2nd round pick on a blocking te that was overdrated by at least 2 rounds
basiclly denver passed on Clay matthaws Lesean mccoy and earl thomas and just 1 of those couild had led denver to the 2012 super bowl
3 marshall shouild had been deait in 2009 as well because instead of the low return we got form miami they wouild had got atother 09 first

I’m a little unclear why the pats did not tag JC and trade him like the Packers did with Adams. I’m sure we could have got some assets

I needed a couple hours to hose myself off. Holy shit. This is awesome. Great work by Ziegler & McDaniels. Carr is now throwing to a top 2 wideout, a top 3 TE and the best slot receiver to ever grace the league. The right side of the offensive line works well and there are still signings to make, but a really top level passing attack and the best pass rush in the division is a good place to start.

Of course, I can't help but wonder if the Raiders even think about this deal if Henry Ruggs takes an Uber.

One thing probably worth noting with regards to Adams choosing LV over GB is....
They were college teammates and are close friends, he mentioned last year he'd like to play with him:
https://www.nfl.com/news/davante-adams-derek-carr-it-would-be-a-dream-packers-raiders
Yeah, “preferred to play elsewhere” is not exactly the same as “preferred to play with old buddy Carr”
Adams purchased the house next door to Carr in LV, yes, the one that Jon Gruden sold on his way out of town.

Um that’s a QB contract. Like I don’t expect Mac to get than much in 2-3 years.
That's not a QB contract unless we are living in 2019. It's a solid $10M/per less than QB contracts. The number 10ish QB in the NFL just signed a deal for significantly more than what the #1 or #2 WR in the NFL did.

Pretty dumb deal for the Raiders.

Maybe Josh realizes that if he doesn't win some games next year in a stacked division his head coaching career might be over.

The best receiver in football for less than Mack (2018 trade), Ramsey or Jamal Adams seems like a reasonable fee to me.

The power of Patrick Mahomes is truly amazing. Look at what he has made the rest of the AFC West do this offseason.

All of this. The Rams won a SB because of Cooper Kupp. Period. Worth both picks and every penny. LFG.

The part about the best slot receiver was sarcastic, right? I mean, he's good but he's not any better than good.

You're right. Jerry Rice existed, so Hunter Renfow is only the second greatest pass catcher God has created.
