Darwinzon called up. Brewer optioned to the 'bucket.
If only the bucket meant DFAed. God he's been awful. Hopefully he cant find whatever in Pawtucket and come back better. Lets see how Darwinzon handles this.

Split off from the Walden callup thread. Let's hope Darwinzon is good enough to deserve all the Darwin Zone jokes.

Why did they waste an option calling him up? Seems like a terrible waste of resources.
You can only burn one per year, so presumably they are sure he’d be up at some point and at least he got a small taste of the clubhouse.

he was up earlier in April, had an OK debut out of the pen. And he is almost certain to be on the club for September, at latest.

That isn't how options work, he's on the 40 man and had been up earlier this year. This years option had already been used so he can come up and down as much as they want him to.

Yes, the option is "burned" not by calling him up, but by having him in the minors while he's on the 40-man. Since he was added to the 40-man in November as a rule 5 protectee, they were committed to "burning" an option this year regardless. He's on the 40, might as well use him if the need arises. That's the whole point of having those guys on the roster.

Calling him up had no effect on whether his option got used up this year, they would have had to have him on the 25 for enough of the season that he wouldn't have spent 20 days on minor league rosters for this season's option to not get used up once he was added to the 40.

I know how options work. I just completely forgot he was called up earlier in the year. I thought yesterday was his first call up to the bigs. No need to lecture on how options work. Brain fog on my part.

Its not that he was called up that burned the option. It's that he was on the 40 and sent down before the season started. The option is used even if he spends the whole year at AAA.

Are you new here? Pedantic is what we do.

Besides, you still don't seem to have a full understanding of how options work. /pedant

We need about 6 posts all explaining options again.

Or we could just do a sticky on that and have everybody reference it in the future. Options, salary tax levels and taxes/penalties associated, things like that.

Then we could have 6 different posts referencing it.
