Not at all. It’s always great to have players who genuinely want to be here, for reasons other than money. It makes us feel good about our team, as fans, and it can’t be a bad thing in terms of production and team chemistry.

It also goes against the narrative that NBA players do not want to play in Boston. Brogdon and White were happy to be traded here. Boston has signed two max free agents in the last seven seasons, and just signed what looked to be value FAs in back to back summers, in Schroder and Gallinari

3 max free agents, no? Horford/Hayward/Kemba.

It looks like Gallo injured his right knee on the most routine play. It looks like he his left foot landed on its outside, instead of flat our on the ball of his foot, when he was running. Hopefully just a tweak.

The whole "planted on the outside of the foot" thing could definitely be a collateral ligament. I stretched mine out squatting with outside leverage like that. Could also be small meniscus issue. Glad that the ACL is reportedly solid.

Jesus, Danilo trying to beat Gordon's record by getting a serious injury BEFORE the season. Thankfully it appears like the crisis was averted.

When I first looked at the video, it looked like it was a noncontact injury when he planted the left foot. Looking back at it after seeing the above tweet, it looks like his left knee brushes against the burly defensive players right knee really quickly. If it is an injury caused by knee to knee contact, that’s probably the best case scenario.

Why is their trainer washing and rubbing him down like he was Epicenter at The Travers Stakes today?

UPDATE: By Gianmarco Pozzecco's words, head coach of Italy, the feeling is that Danilo Gallinari tore his left cruciate ligaments. Nothing official yet. "I hope and I pray that nothing bad will come out. It was... it is an honor coaching him. I saw pain in his eyes", he said
That's just the story he's going to tell the government to get him a disability pension.

90-95 percent of the time these are partial menisectomies, or “cleanups”, which would mean a 4-8 week recovery. If it’s a repair - much less common but feasible in someone his age - it’s more like 4-6 months

Thanks. I think Timelord has made me hear the word "meniscus" and think "Hall of Fame career over."

As someone who has a torn medial meniscus - and I understand that the medical care + PT these athletes receive is leagues above what a ham and egger like me gets - I marvel that people can still play NBA basketball.

It feels fine but one wrong foot fall can lead to some pretty intense pain. I am guessing that the procedures help with it but as I understand it, you have to learn to live with it versus actually "recovering".

Depends on the location and size of course, but I think that you're right about pain tolerance. Even small tears that don't require repair give you that twinge from time to time. Staff knows how to manage that though, as sleeves/wraps and stuff like that really help keep the twinges away both in reality and in the lizard brain. Honestly, I think that the level of pain that these guys play with on a daily basis would make most of us pass out. They've built up to it, but still it's another level.

We should be hearing about a Grant extension soon or if they plan on going to RFA.

Wouldn't expect Granite to strike it rich in RFA, so not bothered either way
Maybe I'm reading too much into things, but I suspect that we're about to find out what Grant's about. I love the bravado and trash talking, but there's a part of me that's a little worried that he's reading his own press clippings. I'd rather have him here on a team friendly deal than have to replace him.

Agree. His corner three is really valuable with this offense. He’s also developed some proficiency for up faking from three and driving to the bucket or finding an open cutter. His switchability on defense is an asset and he is really good in specific match ups. He’s what I hoped Semi could become and more. He does spend too much time in the ref’s ear and I would prefer to see less of that however he is really good for this team and I hope to see him in green continuing to develop his game on both ends of the floor for years to come. He is a valuable depth piece and I think he would be difficult to replace without spending a lot of $s. A team friendly deal would be a fantastic outcome.

Yea, he's a tricky read with regards to his bravado. Brad probably draws the line at TL's extension.

His agent will point to his efficient shooting %, KD/GA playoff defense, ability to stay healthy and his #s with the starting 4 (ex Horford) were exceptional. Grant would be Al's natural replacement at the 4, if they value continuity.

We might want to move this Grant discussion out of the Gallinari thread. Just a suggestion.

Is this really a bad thing? The Refs dont seem to hate him like 2019 Theis. He always seems to be joking around with them and getting his point out there (even if they dont always or ever buy it).

I think we NEED a guy like that. A "Vet" (and I realize Grant hasnt attained that vaunted status yet) that can chat up the refs and maybe influence 1 or 2 calls a game. A guy like Lowry or Draymond (and yes I realize that Grant is not THERE....and may never get THERE talent or production wise....but he might when it comes to "Working the Refs")

Smarts getting better. JB is too quiet. And Tatum is kinda "hated" by the refs (yeah they call fouls for and against him.....but he doesnt get the star treatment......yet.) And he has shown no "intangible ability" to talk to the refs. His bag of tricks is unfortunatly throwing up his hands or looking at the ref with bug eyes and a "are you fucking kidding me" look.

I would agree if the refs seemed to be getting pissed. If he was showing them up. If they were T'ing Grant up. But none of that seems to be in play.
He continues to (Seemingly.....respectfully) get his point out there with out pissing off the refs.

So if he is talking about where they are going to dinner after the game and how Anthony Davis is pushing in the back when rebounding.....all good in my book.

There is a relatively fine line between working the refs and overworking the refs - and of course the coaching staff probably has a reasonably good handle on this. It can be problematic when a player doesn’t get back on defense because he is jawing about a missed call. I know these guys are not robots and Grant is hardly the only player that does it but by virtue of where he lands on the depth chart he probably gets outsized negative attention from the fan base for it.

It's a bad thing from this fans perspective who does not enjoy watching these guys complain about every. Single. Call.

It seems to work though, which is why guys do it. Harden and Embiid in particular are both good at generating contact, but they're also part actor and part politician. And they get boatloads of calls. Tatum is a bad actor and an even worse politician. And he still has a way to go in learning how to generate good contact. Grant is on the good path. He seems to have the politician part down already.
