Mathis Albert, a 15 year old winger, is starting to get some hype over in Germany. He's putting up big numbers in Dortmund's academy since joining their U17 team from LA Galaxy this past summer and he's probably a higher tier prospect than Cole Campbell, who is older and now on the fringes of their first team.

He's the same birth year as Cavan Sullivan, which could make for some fun youth World Cups.

I’ve seen a one or two guys who follow US prospects closely put Albert ahead of Sullivan at this point and a few others put them in the same tier. Exciting times for sure with all the usual caveats.

Akinmboni looks to be off to Bournemouth. It’s quite a jump for the young man, but Iraola and co. have a great eye for talent. I imagine he will be loaned.

I dislike this move. Akinmboni has a lot of physical gifts and a high upside, but he's raw. He's not yet good enough to hold his own as a starter in MLS, and I hate seeing guys like this make the immediate jump to an EPL club, where it's so easy to get lost in the mix. I hope for the best, but I expect him to have lots of stints with the reserves and a bunch of loan clubs, all adding up to a bewildering, unstable experience that is poor for his development. I'm downgrading my expectations for him, but I really hope I'm wrong — we just don't have many legit high-level CB prospects and we need them to come through.

He has been US all the way at the youth level so presumably not super high risk of him getting poached?

We seem to be in good shape. Albert ('09) has been playing up with the U17 national team (mostly '08s) in the last couple of camps. This team will be playing in CONCACAF qualifiers in February; if he plays with them, he'll be provisionally cap-tied to the US and the chances that he suits up for Germany will be further reduced.
