Cowboy Joe wrangled by Texas Ranger (Joe West suspended 3 games)

I understand why MLB doesn't want umps saying this sort of thing and the same going the opposite way. I'm no fan of Cowboy Joe, but it's not like he went rogue here and started badmouthing Beltre in some sort of tirade. He was asked a question that he probably should have been smart enough to answer differently. Players get fined by the league for this sort of thing, yes? Three games seem a bit much.

While I agree the suspension seems long for this particular incident, having seen Joe West umpire for the past several decades, I have no problem cutting Joe West down a notch.

However, having seen Joe West umpire for the past several decades, I fear that this suspension will somehow make him more of an arrogant prick.

What?
It must be noted every time Joe West is mentioned that the 2004 ALCS crew chief allowed 2 crucial calls to get overturned in Game 6 when that kind of thing simply wasn't done.

Stupid suspension. Beltre even says it wasn't worth a suspension

Indeed.

Suspending West for a series is logistically simpler for MLB than bringing in a sub ump for 1 or 2 games.

Even if I hated Joe West, this seems ridiculous to me.

No need to punish umps for displaying an ounce of personality. If there was real beef there, then sure. But if he's half fucking around at Beltre's expense and no one was offended, then what are they doing this for?
