Ugh. The one guy on that team that I'm rooting for this season — even though I think he's a fairly poor hoops fit there, with LeBron (who should really be a full-time big at this stage of his career), AD, and JaVale in place. Hopefully it's nothing too serious, he gets well, and they eventually flip him to a team where he can strut his stuff a bit more.

Somewhere
I don’t think Cousins has any value anymore. Seems like front offices knew what they were doing last off-season.

Yup. Made $9M last 2 years when it should have been like $60M with another $100M on the way.
Boogie misses out in generational money.
I kid. I kid.

Seriously though, this is why someone like Draymond locks up a long-term deal even if he is leaving some money on the table.

Yup. If I’m in that position, no chance I risk this situation for the incremental dollars. It’s also why I feel guys like Zeke should just take the best deal they can get and move on. It can all go in a flash.

Some of us speculated as far back as last season that Boogie would never be a max player, or even an MLE guy again, but it's still sad to see him go like this. An Achilles injury may not be an automatic death sentence for NBA players anymore, but it's still pretty close, especially for big men. Cascading lower body injuries (like a hammy or ACL) are extremely common once that initial injury has happened. I doubt he's ever a rotation player again for a competing team.

I often read people questioning "leaving money on the table" when I guy signs a year early and/or a bit under a max. If it's someone's second huge deal I get that. But the first huge deal, that one that insures you never have to work again (or do your kids, I suppose) I think getting the money locked in is a lot more improtant than getting the last possible dollar and people---both players and fans---can forget that sometimes.

Good luck Brooklyn.

Agreed. I wouldn’t want to take that risk. Many players , like Lester, Scherzer, etc. have come out ahead but there are some cautionary tales. But that’s baseball.

In a sport like football or basketball, I’m bluffing a little but then taking the best long-term deal I can get, especially if it’s my 1st big deal.

Cousins has career earnings over 80 million -- he was looking for his second big contract -- he completed the 4-year 60 million deal he signed with the Kings in 2014.

Unless his financial manager is 'Toine, he should be set for life.

Still sucks.

Before he got traded from the Kings, did he turn down a deal or am I misremembering?
I don't think so. They traded him because they were worried that he'd qualify for the Super Max and they had no intention of giving it to him. He did turn down an extension offer from the New Orleans Pelicans after the injury for two years and $40 million. Bet he wishes he would have taken that now. That's almost generational money.

Nope. Don’t think so. Not a Nerlens Noel situation but still sucks for him. Obviously, the rest of us poor folk are probably a little less sympathetic.
