Yeah, a healthy Manny Malhotra would have been a real game changer. Give me a break. Those player quotes are hilarious. They were over confident, overrated and believed their own hype.

That article was pathetic.

The Rome hit was two strides late and the head was the principle point of contact. The way they harp on that is embarrising.

Although in their defense, no team has ever had injured players and managed to win a Stanley Cup.

I had a perfect view of that hit from my seats. It was 2 big strides late. Like a legit 3 count. Absolutely predatory.

Hamhuis left the first game with an injury and never returned. (I thought it looked like it might have been related to a high cross-check from Krejci retaliating for a hip check on Lucic when watching the replays, but what I've been able to find indicates that it was a hernia and other abdominal injuries.)

There was also a lot of speculation from the NBC crew that Kesler was playing hurt.

That having been said, the Bruins weren't exactly the picture of perfect health either. It's a long season, depth matters, and injury luck is part of the game.

As the poet Mark Recchi said, "take a look inside our fucking locker room" (paraphrased)

Absolutely, the Bruins were plenty banged up as well by the end. They didn’t have Malhotra, the Bruins didn’t have Marc Savard. Andrew Ference played that finals series with a shoulder held together with glue duct tape. He could barely lift the cup.

Horton too. I don't really count Savard because he was done well before the playoffs really started, it wasn't like they were replacing him on the fly.

The Bruins did have relatively good health during that run. They only used 20 skaters throughout the entirety of the playoffs, which is pretty damn clean. Hnidy got 3 games, 1 for a sick Chara and 2 for an injured McQuaid. Otherwise the D was intact the whole way through. Bergeron missed 2 games to start the Tampa series, but the only other F injury that caused someone to miss games was Horton in the Final. That's kind of the nature of playoff hockey though. You need luck on the health front. Doesn't excuse Vancouver's whining but you need the health gods on your side to win the Cup. And it's not like any of the Vancouver guys were removed due to a bad hit, like Horton was. It's mostly bad luck. Hamhuis whiffed trying to take out Looch. Raymond got tangled up with Boychuk and broke his back against the boards. Malhotra played 6 games that series, his only 6 playoff games that year, not sure what their gripe is there.

Another thing that pissed me off about that Vancouver article was Bieksa saying he regretted shooting the puck at the end of game 7. I always thought he did that so Thomas and the Bruins could have it, but he makes it sound like he did it out of frustration. One final act of assholishness from that team. Dick.

I'm finally getting a chance to delve into my DVR of random things I've recorded over the past few weeks, and Game 7 of the 2011 East Finals vs Tampa is first on my list. I've only ever watched this game at a bar that night, so I never really got to hear the game audio or truly appreciate it in all its splendor. Nonetheless, immediately after the game and for the past 9 years, I've been certain that this is the best hockey game I have ever watched. And it's truly a pleasure to be able to watch it now with a cold beer and once again experience how great this game is. Thank you NESN for re-airing the 2011 playoff run.

I loved that team so much. Ference, Boychuck, Seidenberg, McQuaid, Paille, Thornton, Campbell. God, they were the best.

The most amazing thing? That game was on the Vs. channel... wtf.

How's everyone's work from home going? I've never been busier in my life, but have managed a promotion out of it (my work group's team leader left and I'm taking over), so I guess there's that.

As much as I enjoy rolling out of bed and being able to just start work, I can't believe how much I miss my coworkers, office, the alone time I get on my commute, and generally the whole "normal life" thing.

Also I miss band practice terribly.

I'm pretty lucky, as I just recently retired from the military, but I had no vacation time at my new job, so I'm currently on unpaid leave and all I do is hang out with my family and stream Out of the Park Baseball. I could quit and we would survive, the job was basically just to help me pay off my last credit card anyway, but I do miss the job and seeing other people.... and especially the commute. Being able to turn off for that 40 minutes a day and just listen to a podcast or turn on music and sing in my crummy voice with nobody listening was more cathartic than I realized, I think.

Also, I'm getting fat.

I usually work from home, so this isn't a huge change for me. I'm kinda missing playing hockey and hanging out with my friends, but I can manage there to be honest. It's been doable.

Not being able to golf is absolutely killing me. It's my number one favorite activity, the weather is gorgeous, and I can't do it. It's driving me insane.

I’m sure. I’m the same way with music. I haven’t been able to rehearse in almost 2 months. Two of the bands I share a rehearsal room with have continued to rehearse so I don’t even want to go to the room on my own and play loudly. And considering how insane work has been, not having that stress release is just awful.

We’re not gonna see a Bruins game with fans until at least 2021 :(

I’ll just settle for no fans games. They were/are so god damned good this season. Bergeron and Marchand still in their peaks. Pasta was getting 50+. McAvoy blooming into an annual Norris candidate. Games played may hurt, but Rask was Vezina caliber.

Who knows what would’ve happened with no interruption, but fuck were they good.

This x1,000,000%.

They were so deep, too. Every line could contribute, and the defense was quality from top to bottom. And I was really looking forward to seeing how Kase fit in with this lineup as well.

And, a 7 game series with Tampa where both teams actually hate each other? Sign me up. 2011 was an awesome series (Game 7 is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, games ever), but there wasn't nearly as much bad blood as there is right now. That series would have been epic.

Fuck not "getting political". Politics is the cause of the pandemic and the reason Hockey isn't being played right now.

I currently see two possible (and one non possible) outcomes:
Possible: Sports are rushed back, infections spike, sports are suspended. No Sports
Possible: Athletes refuse to return because they lack appropriate protections and they're being asked to isolate from their families. No Sports.
Not Possible: The Trump administration takes the pandemic seriously and actually creates a public health environment where sports can safely resume.

I hate to say this, but I'm somewhat confident that neither the KHL or NHL will play in 2020-2021, and pros will go to other leagues where they are safe.

It’s midnight so I turned on NHL Network to see what was playing. The 2016 Winter Classic at Gillette. Ugh. What a shit show that was. I think the team had tuned out Claude at this point.

96 days ago the B's traded away Backes, and got back Ondrej Kase. A combination of it being 96 days since the trade, him only getting 1 point in 6 games, and me being super-busy with response prep meant I completely forgot that he was on the team altogether and had to look that back up.

Also, The David Ayers game was only 3 months ago.

It’s hot out so since I’m working from home, went shirtless today. It was going well until I walked into a video conference call my wife was having with her coworkers. Bah. Oh well, made it 2.5 months before making that kind of mistake, and it could’ve been worse.

Did you at least go full Marchand / McGregor strut after realizing it?
