Northeastern took down #2 Notre Dame 9-2 tonight. First time ND had lost at their new arena. NU has now won four in a row, including a 4-1 win at Michigan last week. They play ND again tomorrow.

I'm not very knowledgeable about hockey, but from what I've seen, NU appears to be talented but inconsistent (so many damn penalties too...). Their games this year:

vs. Massachusets, 3-3 T (slow out of the gate, but I thought they dominated the later half of the game and scored the tying goal with just a few seconds left in regulation).
@ Maine 6-3 L
vs. New Hampshire 4-0 W
@ Merrimack 4-1 L
vs. Boston College 4-3 L, OT (led 3-1 for a looooong time, but surrendered the tying goals midway through the 3rd period and lost with about a minute left in OT).
@ New Hampshire 5-2 L
@ Merrimack 1-1 T
vs. Merrimack 3-2 L, OT (again led 2-1 midway through the 3rd before letting in the tying goal. Lost on a bad pass on their own power play being stolen for a break away score).
@ Boston College 2-1 L (BC scores winning goal with seconds left)
@ Massachusetts 4-2 L

And now this most recent stretch, starting on 11/18:

@ Providence, 5-2 W
vs. Vermont, 4-1 W
@ Michigan, 4-1 W
@ ND, 9-2 W

They definitely have the ability to play with some of the best, but need to be more disciplined and hold the line all the way to the end. Hopefully they can keep up the recent good play. Anxious to see how tomorrow night's game goes.

Is there any sport that BC doesn't suck at? 4-1 Terriers despite being outshot something like 102-11
That was a crazy game. Don't remember seeing that many penalties at a college game. The safety school has been playing pretty well on the road at the best college program in the country, but was trying to give it away in the 3rd period, but they had a lucky 4-6 PK empty netter to ice it (pun intended).

Do the prime seats come included with that donation package with the nice football parking pass? Because many of those seats were empty, but every one of the upper seats was taken. section JJ (BU students) was pretty loud. Millan played out of his mind, at least for the first 36 minutes of the game. Experience at G was huge in this game.

BC is way too cute with the puck. Even though they had about 500 SOG last night there were still countless opportunities they messed up because they try to get too cute and make the pretty play instead of firing it to the net. Hell it's the biggest hockey player interview meme, "Ahhh we gotta get pucks to the net and ahhh good things will happen". Same thing happened against ND too (along with getting screwed out of a perfectly legitimate goal).

Regardless Milner is out tonight in favor of Billet, who was pretty highly refardef coming out of Juniors so it'll be I retesting to see how he responds to playing in a hostile environment.

BC was #2 in the country going into the game, you stupid piece of shit.
hey, no shit, really? thanks. I guess that makes BU #1 then. Or BC #14 since BU was #13. Because, you know, that really matters on December 3rd.

edit: no wait, BC is waxing BU tonight so BC should be at least #4 and BU maybe #11. Regardless, BC still sucks

NU took down ND again tonight 2-1, sweeping their weekend series.
ND really didn't look good. There's been a flu epidemic sweeping the campus, and I wonder if the hockey team was affected.

As a fan of both ND (grad) and NU (undergrad), I'm glad it was NU that took advantage of an off weekend for the Irish.

Another win for NU last night over UML, 3-2. 6 in a row now, including the last 4 against ranked opponents. Two huge Hockey East points.

The big test will be the first weekend after the break, with BU at home on Friday the 13th and BC at Fenway on Saturday the 14th.

BU Hockey Star Arrested
The starting center on the BU men’s ice hockey team was arrested Sunday night and charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery after he allegedly entered the room of a female student and attempted to kiss and grope her.

Corey Trivino (MET’12), the leading scorer in Hockey East, was also charged with two counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime and one count of assault with attempt to rape. Trivino, a Toronto native, pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment yesterday in Brighton District Court. Judge David T. Donnelly set bail at $25,000 or surrender of Trivino’s Canadian passport and ordered Trivino to leave his BU dormitory room by 3 p.m. yesterday. Donnelly ordered a “status check” of the case on January 18.

I guess that SUX4BU.

Been enjoying my very reasonably priced season tix to Quinnipiac this year. Destined to the middle of the pack in the ECAC, although third in pts right now. My kids love the games, too. It costs less than taking them to a movie.
I'm a QU alum. How's the team been this year. Standings wise they are 3rd in ECAC.

QC alum here. Back when we were the Braves.

I will be attending a hockey game there after the Christmas break with an old friend from the school.

I vow to hunt Belli down.

Felix, I'll likely be at the game. I will figure out a way to buy you a beer (they sell beer if you do the pre-game meal deal in the basketball court area). Or at least a nice cappucino. It's really a nice place to watch a game, and no bad seats.

As for are they any good, I'd say they are competitive. Overall record is good, conference record is muddled with a lot of other teams this early. I've seen only about 5 games, and they hung fine with Clarkson and Union. Scoring against legit teams has been tough of late. They outshot Union like 40-15 and tied. Lots of shots, but the quality wasn't necessarily there. They got sloppy late against Princeton this weekend, but held on 3-2.

The Colgate/Cornell weekend 1/13 and 1/14 will be their truest test. Felix, I'm guessing you'll be going to one of those games.

Yes, the BC-Northeastern game with my daughter, a BC sophomore.
Yes, I'll be at the UVM-UMass and Northeastern/Maine games. Trying to make it a tripleheader with Bruins-Canucks and if Timmy doesn't start I might be getting 2 of his tickets. If not, then drinks at the Fours will do.
Should be fun. Union alum here so I'll be at their game against Harvard. It's been quite awhile since I've seen a game at Fenway; I didn't expect my next one would be hockey but I'm pretty excited since Union's only claim to fame while I attended was playing in and losing the longest game in NCAA history (which happened again in 2010 against Quinnipiac).

NU is still rolling, as the Huskies tied Princeton 3 - 3 (winning the shootout) and then beat #2 Minnesota at their place, 3 - 2. During their current unbeaten streak, NU have won road games against Michigan, Notre Dame, and now the Gophers.

Princeton was a pretty sloppy game, but I heard they looked much better against Minnesota.

They really need to do better than 2-for-19 on the PP though. (I think that was the total for them in the tournament).

Looks like I may be at Q-Dartmouth on Feb 4.

BC loses to UMass 4-0. This Eagles team just isn't that good.

There's a decent amount of talent there, but they have been getting outworked lately. Strange for a York-coached team. Also, there doesn't seem to by anyone willing to get to the front of the net and get the dirty goals. Lot's of good looks for the opposing goaltenders. Seems to me that a lot of the guys are looking to pass first. On defense, they are allowing way too many odd-man rushes against. The defensemen are pinching in too much, trying to get the offense going and are getting caught Also, I've never been a fan of the 4 forward, 1 defenseman power play. BC has given up a number of shorties this year.

NU lost 4-3 against BU at Matthews last night. They beat themselves. Lots of penalties. Couldn't score during a 2-minute 5-on-3 PP. I think they took like one shot during that entire time.

That being said, they got no help from the refs. Worst officiated game I've ever seen, completely out of control. Supposedly, the refs shook hands with BU after the game but avoided NU. This about sums it up.

Big game today at Fenway vs. BC. NU's dropped to 9th in Hockey East. Desperately needs points now.

Was there for the first time in 20+ years (back when NU was good, maybe 88 or 89?). Student section still as crazy as I remember it, every "seat" taken. But the lower level areas were 1/3 empty, although the BU sections that we were in was pretty loud (and funny, I forget the BC stuff is still prevalent even with no BC). Although I don't really understand the "BC reject" chant considering the academics of BC v. BU.

I know it's a very old arena (Bruins original home-'24-28), but I get the sense it's grandfathered in to the fire codes, because there's basically one entrance/exit/lobby area.

Yeah, NU's PP was horrible. But I'm surprised how well BU is able to overcome missing Coyle and Trivino. Nasir especially is stepping up.

I've never had BHOP pizza, and don't really care to try it given the smells in that place.

The lower bowl seats are typically reserved for alumni, I believe. It's fairly empty pretty much every game. Up top is where gets loud and crowded.

Of course, the NU response to the BC reject chant was NU reject, haha.

BU did look a lot better than I expected. They'll be right there at the end like they always are.

(and yea...I would stay away from BHOP from what I've heard).

Another loss, 2-1 last night to BC at Fenway. NU's now 23rd in the Pairwise, down from 17, and have dropped to 9th in Hockey East. Terrible weekend.

Supposedly Madigan suspended Cody Ferriero and Braden Pimm (who, with Steve Qualier, make up NU's best line) for both of these past two games for being late to curfew back at the Mariucci Classic. Have to wonder how different things would've been with them.

There are several fire exits from the arena. When I went to games there (last one was late '90's or early '00's), it was common to use them to leave the arena after a game.

Excellent game today and a great 2-game sweep by Maine over BC. Matt Mangene with the hat trick today in a 7-4 win after trailing 2-0. The Black Bears were shorthanded for the last 7 minutes of the 2nd period thanks to a hitting-from-behind major followed immediately by a minor, but Danny Sullivan and the defense allowed just one goal over that span. Three power play goals today for the second most efficient unit in the nation behind Harvard.

After starting the season with just 3 wins in its first 11 games, Maine is 9-2-1 in their last 12 dating back to Thanksgiving. If this doesn't get them into the Top 20 in the polls, I'll be mildly surprised considering their overall schedule strength hasn't been all that impressive. They were #21 in the PWR before the BC games.

HUGE series at BU coming up next weekend. Maine's just 2-4-3 in non-neutral road games, with both wins at hapless Vermont in early December.

BU seems like a new team after the expulsions, wth two humiliations of PC this weekend. What has happened here? Even wehn they beat BC and other teams earlier this year, they clearly were outskated/outplayed, but in the last two weeks or so they ahve played their best hockey without their most talented player/s

Terrible weekend for NU. Loss 4-0 in one of the ugliest games of the year at Lowell Friday night, then a 3-2 OT tonight. Brutal four game losing streak.

There's a lot of talent on this team and we saw it during the winning streak. But there's only so far you can go when you commit penalties left and right and have terrible special teams play.

Maine hands BU its first loss of 2012, coming from behind for a 4-2 road win. 28 saves for Dan Sullivan in the Black Bear net, and the Terriers only had one power play all night.

The Bears are 10-2-1 since Thanksgiving after a 3-6-2 start. Maine's in sole possession of 3rd place in Hockey East (10-7-2), but Merrimack and UMass-Lowell both have three games in hand.

Tonight's game will be televised on CBS College Sports.

BC sweeps UNH for its first 4 point weekend in a long time, winning last night's with a minute left and tonight's on a PP ~3 minutes into OT. Didn't realize it was on TV until the third but BC looked pretty good. They still don't shoot the puck and, when they do, have a tendency to telegraph it to the point where the lanes are clogged so nothing gets through. That and their goalies aren't good anymore. Regardless, still a dangerous team with all the top-end talent they have and if they can put it together. Nice to pick up 4 points in HE on BU this weekend.

NU took care of business by sweeping UVM in Burlington this weekend. That, combined with BC and UML sweeps of UNH and UMass have the Huskies back in the playoffs at the moment, tied for 7th with UMass, one point up on UNH.

Which, interestingly enough, are who they've got in their next two games (excluding the Beanpot). Obviously, these are kind of important.

After that, NU has 5 home games (PC 2, Maine 2, and BU) and one over at Agganis. Not much time left suddenly.

Watched it this morning. Sullivan was out of his mind in net (38 saves).

Maine is a point out of first place in HE. They're also now 11th in the PairWise, just a point behind the 3 teams tied for 8th place.

Back at Alfond next weekend for what ought to be a sweep of Alabama-Huntsville (2-24-1). Can't afford any let-downs.

Yes, although the teams right around Maine in HE all have games in hand, with some being made up this weekend. I'm heading up to the Alfond to see them this weekend so a letdown would suck on several levels.
