How on earth Alabama gets away with playing Western Carolina in week 13 and still gets playoff consideration I will never understand.
Everybody schedules an FCS opponent. Bama just schedules theirs late in the season instead of early.

Usually, Bama schedules a quality nonconference opponent (or at least a team that’s usually good) when other teams are playing their FCS tune-ups. This year, they inexplicably scheduled Duke. I think that’s going to be their undoing — if they had a Week 1 win over, say, Michigan, they would have a much stronger case.

They played New Mexico State in Week 2.

NMST is an FBS program, albeit a crappy one.

Virtually every P5 team schedules a couple of cupcakes. Bama’s schedule is much weaker than in recent years because they scheduled Duke instead of their usual marquee opener, and also because the SEC West isn’t as strong top to bottom as it has been in recent years. (Arkansas and Ole Miss are horrible, and TAMU is having a down year.) So they’re unlikely to sneak into the playoff as a 1-loss team without a conference championship, as they have managed to do before.

well hard to say TAMU is having a down year as they sit here at 7-3 with losses to Bama Auburn, and Clemson. Right now they are by far Bama's second best win, and Clemson's best win

But you are right Ole Miss and Arky are horrible, plus they crossed over to play Tenn and USC from the east and both are weak.

Bama's best win, unless I missed a win. And no, I wouldn't call it a down year for them, either, other than what their alums are doing at the next level.

Chase Young misses two games, comes back and sacks Sean Clifford inside Penn State's 5-yard line for an Ohio State record 14 sacks on the season. The Buckeyes already marched 91 yards for a touchdown. Penn State hasn't looked like a top 10 team this year and this is going to be over early.

That fumble was the last thing Ohio State could have done. Now all of a sudden, what is a huge hole is nothing.

Penn State now driving like it's nothing. Turnovers, man.

2nd huge mistake for tOSU. That needs to be picked.

I don't like this.
You can’t be serious, John. OSU fumbled inches away from their second long TD drive in two opportunities. PSU put together three consecutive first downs but they didn’t stretch the field or have the defense on their toes. PSU is just making the inevitable a little more respectable.

James Franklin is a good coach, but every week he does dumb negative EV shit like punt from the OSU 36

I'm half serious. But mistakes compound and all of a sudden, a lousy team is back in the game. This game is obviously not over.

I get it. A couple of turnovers or drives that don’t amount to anything compounded with lost momentum and it can get dicey. But Ohio State has so many weapons...
That last drive was pretty solid. Plus, they took some chances on 4th. That is the "Reverse Penn State".

Buckeyes pretty loose with the football. Truth is, Lamont Wade and Micah Parsons made two nifty strips for the Nits.

I still think PSU loses, but based on how they've acquitted themselves today against a top title contender, I think this is clearly too harsh by some distance.
Beat Pitt at home by 7. Barely held on at home in a "white out" game against a mediocre Michigan team. Beat Indiana at home by 7. Lost to Minnesota. They're only in this game because of Ohio State's turnovers and some coin flip/questionable officiating, and their starting quarterback may have just lost his job after a single drive. There's a huge drop-off after the top three, with maybe Georgia in a tier of their own... maybe Penn State fits in that next group of good but flawed interchangeable teams, but they've been far from impressive this year.
