I think this is right. The only way they can put Alabama in is to change their approach completely from last week.I don’t think they are putting Bama in over SMU. I think they sort of cornered themselves by ranking SMU 8th heading into the conference championships.
Obviously not a fair argument. those leagues have 64+ team playoffs?Every single sports league in America does this with division championships and preferred seeding. Besides, the conferences have all the power. The CFP will be dissolved before the conference championship games are.
They’re are plenty of NCAA sports with playoffs that large. Conference titles matter in every single one.Obviously not a fair argument. those leagues have 64+ team playoffs?
I heard before 12:30 but who knows? Is this one of those things where they talk to correspondents for 52 minutes and then release the bracket just before 1PM?
ESPN has announced details for when fans will know the CFP bracket. Though the show is four hours long from 12 to 4 p.m. ET, the CFP top 25 rankings and the bracket will be revealed within the first 30 minutes.

That's not what that quote says.ESPN is just such assholes. They are the mountain top removal coal extraction of sports. I fucking despise their business. Hostage taking motherfuckers. 4 hours to release a bracket, fuck them.
That’s what I said. As they should. In those leagues a conference champion is not bumping a top 11 team. They’re are plenty of NCAA sports with playoffs that large. Conference titles matter in every single one.
Played in the conf title game! What is the argument for Penn State over Ohio State?
Well but for real, that’s the logic. Conference game loss doesn’t hurt you. Ohio state has better wins but an ugly loss, much like how Bama has better wins than SMU but an ugly loss. We’ll see if they maintain the same logicPlayed in the conf title game!
It’s a joke, they don’t ever beat a big dog.
Absolutely. Lots of changes coming.Requiring all the byes to be conference champions is a bad idea. Auto qualification for winning a conf title game, sure, whatever, but this is too much.
They’re trying to disincentivize the conference consolidation. If Texas didn’t go to the SEC they’d be number 1 or 2.Requiring all the byes to be conference champions is a bad idea. Auto qualification for winning a conf title game, sure, whatever, but this is too much. ASU sticks out like a massive sore thumb.
Anyways, these games will be fun, which is ultimately what matters.
They all had to play games yesterday while everyone else rested. If we want to get serious, we can mix conference championship weekend with wild card bowl games. Tennessee and Ohio State could have played yesterday.Requiring all the byes to be conference champions is a bad idea. Auto qualification for winning a conf title game, sure, whatever, but this is too much.
No they won’t. This is exactly what they wanted. Everyone but the SEC is thrilled.Absolutely. Lots of changes coming.
I know you never admit you’re wrongNo they won’t. This is exactly what they wanted. Everyone but the SEC is thrilled.
14 team playoff is definitely coming. No they won’t. This is exactly what they wanted. Everyone but the SEC is thrilled.
Ah, I hadn’t thought about that. They’re trying to disincentivize the conference consolidation. If Texas didn’t go to the SEC they’d be number 1 or 2.
They’ll expand but they’re not going to change conference auto bids or byes14 team playoff is definitely coming.
You tell me how many P4 coaches you’ve candidly talked to about this and I’ll do the same. Then we can compare notes.I know you never admit you’re wrong
That's about as good a draw as we could have gotten. Clemson in Austin then Arizona State if we win. The Oregon which at this point is probably psychologically better than Georgia if the seeds play out.Clemson @ Texas
Right, I guess my point is that expanding to 14 means you're lopping off two byes. They’ll expand but they’re not going to change conference auto bids or byes
Why wouldn’t they?Oh my god they made Notre Dame and Ohio State the night games. Those sickos. I love it.
I wonder whether the committee tried to avoid conference opponents in the first round.Penn State lucked out though
I agree with this completely. Four was clearly too few. I thought six or eight made the most sense but this is OK. But while I probably will whine hypocritically when my team ends up just missing the cut, nobody should actually be complaining about being ranked 13/14 instead of 11/12. You lost on the field, not in the committee.12 teams was one too many. Neither SMU nor Bama (or Ole Miss) deserved a spot.
Pretty sure Penn State is happy the Committee picked SMU, which of course suggests they got it wrong. But that’s not the same as saying Bama or the SEC was wronged; they weren’t.
