Why would Georgia do that? He’s an asset both for next year and down the line. I just can’t imagine Georgia playing him in four or fewer games and then letting him walk to another school at the end of next year.

Early National Signing Day is in full swing.

At least noteworthy flip:

QB Dwan Mathis from Belleville, Michigan, flipped from the tOSU to Georgia, a day after Fields' name appeared in the NCAA's transfer database. There is speculation that he could end up a Buckeye. But whether that speculation motivated the flip, or another possible reason - Meyer's recent announcement of his planned retirement - it's hard too say.

Fields is expected to land at Ohio State because he wants to play for Ryan O'Day.

Maybe it is that simple: Fields shows up and everyone else just gives up. Somehow, I don't think a 6'6" 4* thinks he wouldn't be able to complete...even against Fields. And among today's consistent FCS contenders, few have a lone elite QB. But you're probably right. Better to go somewhere where he has at least a higher probability of being #1 on the depth chart with others competing to overtake him than the other way around.

I know Fields is hooked up with that attorney who reps kids trying to transfer without sitting a year. But unless I haven’t been paying attention, is that something that happens regularly? Seems if he transfers and has to sit, he’d be better off just waiting for Fromm to leave and start in 2020 at Georgia. I understand why grad transfers have different rules, but I’m just not that familiar with how often an exception is granted to an undergrad transfer.

I feel like kinda bad saying this, since his brother just died the other day, but I’m watching Temple Duke in the Independence Bowl and Duke just threw a Pic6 and Temple interim coach Ed Foley looked more like Matt Foley from his van down by the river

Good bowl win for a Duke team that had basically the entire starting defense lost to season ending injuries over the season.

Let’s check in at the Music City Bowl and see how it’s going ...

Auburn 56
Purdue 7

It’s halftime.
Fascinating stats at halftime:

1st downs:
Auburn 13
Purdue 12

Time of Possession:
Auburn: 11 min
Purdue: 19 min

Looking forward to another 5-loss season for Auburn, with another Alabama beatdown.

Unless you're a gambler. Seems like it's gambling and advertising driving the bowl games.
Cheap program filler for ESPN/ABC during the holiday season. Attendance at games is not nearly as significant, although I was shocked that 6-6 Baylor vs 6-6 Vandy drew 51K in scenic Houston. Also, Purdue/Auburn drew 58K to Nashville; at least there's something in Nashville for tourists to do/see.

Oregon just attempted the same ridiculous fake punt formation that the Colts failed spectacularly with against the Pats 3-4 years ago. The one where there’s only 2 guys (including the center) blocking for the kicker who is trying to throw a pass.

As with the Colts, the Oregon punter was sacked almost immediately, long before anybody could get into pattern.

Sadly, this Oregon-Michigan St. game that's 7-6 with 5 minutes left might be the most interesting bowl game I've seen this year. I've watched at least a large chunk of 7 bowl games, and none of them have been good... a couple have been kind of competitive, but only because both teams played badly.

In the Missouri/Okla St game, the Ok cornerback just let a guy run 60 yards for a TD. That really looked like point shaving. He didn't even try, slowed down as the ball was coming down, and then just jogged after the guy when he was literally two feet away.

Missouri down 5, 3rd and 1 on Ok St's 10 yard line. Two runs for zero yards. In college.

Bad play calls and just poor execution, this is a murderous loss for Missouri.

1) Do we need a game thread for today?

2) Does UCF play the Bama Clemson winner? Pending a review for a rough block on the LSU QB, 14-3 UCF following a 90 yard pick-6 and XP.

nice turn on a dime at the sideline by Dillon for LSU, they retake lead, 17-14. Fun game. LSU is out of cornerbacks I think.

UCF gets a 32 yard TD attacking the LSU 12th string CB, who had good coverage but failed to ball-strip.

Lot of talk about the defending champs, but nobody has mentioned that their hands-down best player, and "would have been a Heisman contender if he played for a P5 school" QB, isn't playing, and they are hanging just fine. That "5th best team in the SEC" trounced Georgia by 20 points, the same Georgia team that a lot of folks said should have made it in over ND. They're also one of only a few teams to give an actual game to Alabama this year, even if it was only for about 3 quarters.

That said, I actually came here to say that for those of you who don't watch a lot of college football, pay attention to the broadcasting teams today. If the NFL would just hire half these crews and dump the Fouts' of the world, you'd hear a lot less complaints on Sundays. Most of these guys are fantastic, which just makes it so much worse that the NFL can't get it right.

Mississippi St. running back just took a hard shot on a play, got up and kind of stumbled over to the sideline and then collapsed. They just cut to commercial, but it didn't look particularly good. Hopefully, he'll be on his feet when they come back.

Sideline reporter came out of commercial and said she was standing right there, and his eyes rolled back in his head and he lost concsiousness, and the medical team got him back awake, and were "trying to keep him alert" as they brought him to the medical tent. Scary stuff. Looked like the refs missed a fumble by him on the field during the hit too, but Iowa picked off the next pass.

If anyone is looking for a replacement for Gronk around here, Iowa TE and Mackey Award winner, TJ Hockenson, might very well fit the bill. Only a sophomore though, so might have to squeeze one more year out of the Gronkimus.

There is no way he was cracking the Top 3, even putting aside that his numbers would be even worse if he had to play P5 competition every week. He was noticably worse statistically both passing and running this season, and for my money his 6th place finish was more than he deserved.

He also doesn't play defense, and this team is getting shredded by an LSU offense that wasn't even top 50 in the country.
