This FSU thing is getting annoying, hopefully it ends up good.
I wouldn't mind seeing James Franklin leave the Big 10 East. He's been far more successful and resilient than I thought he would be. He will be expensive for FSU, but I could see him wanting to get away from the competitive Big 10 East division.

Franklin's about to get a payraise/extension from Penn State. He's only leaving for USC, if any program, at this time.

Wow. Just burned out, it seems? Regardless, DC Jimmy Lake is taking over.

Washington coach Chris Petersen will step down after the Huskies' bowl game and be replaced by defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake, the school announced Monday.

As part of the shocking announcement, the school said Petersen will transition into a "leadership advisory role" within the athletic department.

background on the odd duck

But Petersen always tried to coach in a more humane manner than those in the profession who famously slept in the office and ignored all other aspects of their lives. His outlook was honed by his young son’s battle with pediatric cancer, which imbued him with a strong sense of perspective that there was more to life than wins and losses.

Petersen always insisted that his assistant coaches go home at dark. He wanted them to have balance, too. And he was facing an excruciating decision on the future of an assistant coach he loves and admires in beleaguered Husky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan – who played quarterback for Petersen at Boise State

Buzz around Noles is Norvell using the logic that their announcement is pushed back after Championship games and he is only candidate playing in one.

So many crazy rumors though. Some still holding out hope for Stoops and the delay being because he had to attend a friend's funeral.

College Football is nuts.

Back at the UW, from Coach Pete’s press conference today:

At the root of Petersen’s shocking resignation, announced Monday, were two interrelated epiphanies on his part. One was that he had lost an essential passion for the job, exemplified by the joylessness he felt during the Rose Bowl last season.

“You work your whole life to get there,” he mused during a news conference Tuesday. “And I didn’t really appreciate the week. I didn’t appreciate the game like I need to, as a kid growing up looking at that game. And I think that was one of the things that really hit me loud and clear.”
He cited a quote he heard last fall from “an Eastern philosopher” (a Google search revealed it to be Confucious, the Heisman Trophy winner of Eastern philosophers). The words resonated deeply:

A man has two lives to live, and the second one begins when he realizes he only has one.

Rumor is that Penn State OC Ricky Rahne will be the coach at Old Dominion.

Anyone have any Norvell takes? Success at Memphis seems good to me but I don’t follow non FSU stuff to closely.

I read something crazy like he has a booze and gambling problem but that was just some twitter comments.

Lane Kiffin looks like he will choose Ole Miss over Arkansas.
It’s amazing what a shitshow the Razorbacks’ football program has become. I can’t think of any time in the past 50 years, except maybe during Eli’s tenure, that Ole Miss would’ve been considered a better program than Arkansas. Yet, I don’t think any of us would find fault with Kiffin’s decision now.

But PSU fans always have seemed so rational.
The real story is James Franklin’s best seasons came with Joe Moorhead as his OC. Franklin is a mediocre game manager. He relies on his coordinators to call plays on both sides of the ball. He got lucky with Moorhead, who was head coach at Fordham before coming to PSU. Now he needs to find another OC with skills.

If you believe the Kristen Saban rumors, it makes perfect sense. The Grove has and will always have better scenery than Fayetteville, both of the plant and mammal life forms. Lane wouldnt be the first one to be interested in that aspect.

I also dispute that it's a worse historical program than Arkansas. It's a founding member of the SEC, unlike Arkansas that expanded in, and (edit: beaten by Kenney) Houston Nutt's resume would indicate it's a step up.

UTSA hires Jeff Traylor.

Fun fact: He grew up near me and we upset his team in high school on a last-second goal line stop to win a share of the district crown.

John Vaught and Frank Broyles were legends at their respective schools Broyles lasted longer and left his program in better shape than Vaught.

Dan Lanning (DC Dawgs) rumored to be heading to Noles.

OC from Auburn also heading to Noles but not sure how big of a deal that is as he wasn’t calling the offense there and he won’t in Tallahassee (afaik).
