Maryland over UConn 3-0 in the fifth in the College Park regional. If the score holds I believe they'll play again for the championship as the Huskies already beat the Terps and have not lost yet. My son is a Terp and plays on their D2 club team. They sometimes play on the varsity field so I've spent a lot of time at "the Bob" this spring.

Terps walk it off 7-6 in 11.The teams meet in the rubber match tomorrow night for the regional championship.

Hogs and Pokes battling into extras. These last few innings have been crazy but nothing new for these two teams.

Texas sweeps its regional (barest Air Force 10-1 tonight). Next up, hopefully hosting someone in the super regional. Onward to Austin North in Omaha.

So the teams that were runners-up in the regional (like Columbia to Virginia Tech) essentially finish between 17-32 nationally, right? It's a little confusing to research this, thanks for any confirmation, because that seems like an impressive finish for my alma mater, especially knocking out Gonzaga by beating them twice.

I also hate the rule. Either put the running lane in line with the base or put in a safety base.
The safety base was proposed this past year and it was voted down.

I actually produced the game with that sequence and the replay officials were very confident the original ruling on the field was correct. Very little doubt.

Never say never. It's the top of the eighth inning, and Texas has a chance.
They hadn't even gotten to the ugliest parts!

Really hurt not to get quality innings out of Hansen.

Also, sure would have been nice to hit the home runs when the runners on base and the ground balls at infielders when the bases were empty rather than the other way around.

Also also, would have been nice to not volley fly balls out of the park.

Fire the coach?
I’m not a huge Pierce fan and he has only been to 2 CWS which is unacceptable at Texas - his hot seat probably starts to get warm next year if they don’t get back to the CWS. Pitching has been horrific. But no reason to ponder firing him, he’s got some great recruits and the freshmen class is loaded. Just need pitching.

Tennessee imploding. Down 8-2 to Notre Dame. One of their best hitters Drew Gilbert tossed after f bombing the ump on a 1-0 count and then the coach gets the heave ho also.

Now the question is will they be available tomorrow?

Judging almost anyone on a three game series seems a bit unreasonable to me. This is still baseball. If Hansen comes to pitch today or Hodo isn't doing his Canseco impression, we're not having this conversation.

I think at a school like Texas, the bar should be being in a position to host a super regional. (Coupled, of course, with competent recruiting and postseason management.) That's really all you can ask for in terms of giving your team the best chance of advancing to the CWS. The #9 seed falls just outside of that, so I think it will be fair to call this season a mild disappointment if they can't rally in Greenville.

Ehhh, Texas has been to half! all CWS. They should be there every other year, at least. This season they regressed. They might come back and win, but that bullpen and lack of a 3rd starter stings.

If that's legit, they were 17-14 against Q1. OU (22-13), Tennessee (25-6), UNC (21-16), TAMU (20-11), Louisville (18-11-1) all had more. Notre Dame (17-7) and Virginia Tech (17-10) had the same with fewer losses. Florida (17-21) had the same with more losses.

Also, they finished tied for fifth place in the nine-team Big 12.
Ah maybe it was in the Bog 12. I know there was an argument they should host over ECU. But it’s irrelevant - they’re likely getting swept.

Hard to have worse uniforms than Notre Dame's all navys. Any idea what that design on the sleeves and pants is supposed to be?

You can root against UNC.

The Hogs take the first game 4-1 against UNC on strong pitching and just enough offense.
Woooo Pig Sooie!

After the hr to tie it the ESPN announcer said if you’re wondering why that didn’t end it it’s because Texas is actually the home team. While true again it only tied the game.
