Currently watching Bryant against #12 East Carolina to get my baseball fix. It is a crazy game. Tied 3-3 East Carolina thinks they win it on a walkoff homer. The batter goes all the way around the bases pumping his fists and the dugout empties in celebration only to have the umpires get together and call it foul.

In the top of the 10th Bryant gets a runner thrown out at home on a single to center only to take the lead on an error by the shortstop on the following hitter.

I don’t know much about the current state of college baseball but it is an entertaining game.

Texas is back as the #1 program in the nation. It was far too long in the wilderness. Without MLB hopefully collage baseball gains some popularity.

#24 ODU crushed Iona today 24-0. They have most of their offense back from a squad that was a #1 seed in the NCAAs. Pitching could be an issue unless they someone steps up as they lost 3 important players to the MLB draft.

Just in time to clash with the Hogs. Hope they both can sustain their recruiting excellence, love me some Diamond Hogs.

Apparently they didn't call it foul. The 1B ump called time right before the pitch. You can see the ump and 1B reacting while ball is in air in this video.

I heard they lost their opener (to Illinois St?) for the first time in like 40 years yesterday

After yersterday's 24-0 shellacking, #24 ODU beat Iona 19-1 today.

Texas is a quarter of the way to 40 wins. Not bad. Last night they beat Tennessee - Tennessee hit a HR to go 1-0 and they put a pimp jacket on the guy. Why are people like this.

Watched parts of UF at Miami Sunday. Quite the cluster as the depth or lack of it in the Miami bullpen was on full display. Reminded me of little kids in their first years pitching. Walk after walk after walk. Not too entertaining. Maybe because it's still early but not good baseball at all.

ODU with another sweep of northeastern school on a southern swing, sweeping Stony Brook, including an 18-6 win in the finale, the 5th time they've scored more than 15 runs this season.

William & Mary just hit home runs on three consecutive pitches against Duke. I wonder what the NCAA record is. I think the MLB record is 3?

We don't have a college softball thread so putting this here. Absolutely heartbreaking story out of James Madison - starting catcher Lauren Bernett committed suicide last week.

She died a day after being named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week.

JMU today announced its cancelling the rest of its season.

Texas finishes fifth in the Big 12, gets to host a regional? I don't totally get college baseball.
Runner-up in the conference tourney sealed their bid. 40+ wins plus essentially guaranteed sell outs They got the #9 national seed (skeptical, Texas fell apart mid season due to awful pitching)

Regionals have started and if you have ESPN+ squeeze play is a fun watch because it bounces from game to game.

Georgia just scored 11 runs before making an out in the 3rd inning. Ouch.

2 nice wins by the Huskies and we are one win from the Supers. I had an enjoyable evening sitting on my deck with the fire pit listening to the game on the radio.

Is college baseball always like slo-pitch softball at Coors Field? Some insane scoring numbers today…..Oregon 18, Georgia 24, UCLA 16, Vanderbilt and Auburn 21 each, Virginia Tech 24, Arkansas 20 including 15 in the final 3 innings!

Pitching in college baseball is pretty mediocre, and there are lots of hit batsmen and walks. The fielding is likewise mediocre, though many balls-in-play are called hits when I would have categorized them as errors. Also, there is no run-rule in the college baseball tournament, unlike the softball tournament. Worst, the games are super-long. I can't remember the last time I failed to leave a college baseball game before the 8th inning because I had other obligations to attend to.

Just curious, what teams are you watching?

Watching Oklahoma and Oklahoma State (which was down 12-0 but has staged a furious come back and is now only trailing by two -- 14-12). I watch the Big 12 for the most part.

pokie beat Missouri State in football this last season 23-16. It’s baseball team today had more points and a larger margin of victory against the Missouri State baseball team (won 29-15).

To be fair, this is a format that is just murder on a pitching staff if you lose one of the first two games.
Most teams have at least four starters -- one for Friday, one for Saturday, one for Sunday, and one for a midweek game. Typically, the Friday night starter is the ace. This format tests the depth of a team's pitching staff.
