Swihart, Moncada AND Kopech is too much.
Well see here is the thing. An acceptable deal to us is probably Edro and Swihart. An acceptable deal to the White Sox was probably Benetendi Moncada Kopech and 2 others. So while the team can meet in the middle the reason why this team is able to make deals like this is simple. The contracts allow this team to retain talent while not overpaying any free agents. We need to give up talent to get it.

Welp, we can all cheer for Moncada to never figure out breaking pitches now.

I look forward to each Sale pitch feeling like Gronk being chased down from behind. "Don't get hurt, don't get hurt, don't get hurt..."

I really hope it wasn't Groome as one of the other young prospects not on the 40 man. It is okay to lose Kopech, but to also lose Groome would leave the Sox with pretty much zero pitching down on the farm. But it does take talent to get talent.

I love this deal for you guys. That's a monster rotation and easily puts the team far ahead of the pack. Do wonder what changed from July to now though.

If it was Groome, wouldn't he be listed with Moncada as the headliner of the deal?

I am not looking forward to the day when Dumbrowski is fired as GM after the Sox win 70 games with a $240m payroll.

If you are going to really make this trade, why not do it last deadline while you still had Ortiz?
Because the White Sox may not have wanted to do it.

Because maybe the Sox called up Moncada and made some decisions after seeing him in Boston.

Love the deal.

With a crowded rotation and a need in the bullpen, does Pomeranz become the relief ace?
I don't know about "ace" but his ability to go multiple innings really helps us in the 6th-7th innings unless he's moved to a bottom feeder like a Brad Miley to shed some salary.

I love Sale, but his mechanics and light frame have always scared me. As long as the 2 prospects are named neither Devers nor Groome I'm good with this move.

I feel just like I felt immediately following these two deals:

Beckett/Lowell for Hanley and Anibal Sanchez
Adrian Gonzalez for Casey Kelly and Anthony Rizzo

I was luke warm in support of both deals. It's one of those where you know it's good in the short-run. Sale is very legit and he makes them an immediate favorite to win the AL. On the downside, there's a very real possibility you look back on this trade as a bit of a loser...particularly if it doesn't put them over the top. They gave up two very good players and the odds one is a star are very real.

I like this deal. I would make it. I think it has a good shot to help both clubs.

I was violently against the David Price signing and against (though less violently) the Pomeranz deal.

Unless Groome is one of the other prospects, this is way less than any of the fantasy packages we (self included) have been throwing together over the past year.

Read on Twitter it's Basabe and Diaz. Not sure how credible that is But I never was a huge fan of Basabe I know some people loved the player.

Moncada sucked in his cup of coffee?
I don't like the plan of making a team which is a likely contender for years a short dated contender. But I'll withhold judgement until we know the full deal.

Kopech I think has the best arm in the minors but is a risk so I can talk myself into that. Moncada is an mvp type. So that is going to take a while

ERA+ of 114 and 120 the past two seasons, and a K rate that dipped 2.5 per nine last year. Generally misses a start or three a la Pedro, with just one Pedro-esque season to date...and then the drop-off. White Sox brass concerned about him breaking down. Better unload half the young talent for him.

Moncada is probably going to be a good player... but he did strike out in over 30% of his plate appearances last year, in AA.

Kopech was a fun prospect to dream on... but he did walk over 5 batters per 9 last year and that was in single A.

Both of these players have significant obstacles to overcome for this to be something we regret.

Unless Sale has a major injury.

Wild guess but I think seeing David Price continue to struggle, seeing Panda get into better shape, and seeing that Moncada was a bit further away than they might have hoped with his approach/pitch recognition are near the top of the list.

Disclaimer: This is not really a reasonable criticism of DD and is not intended as such.

That out of the way, in light of this trade I really wish we could have the Pomeranz deal back.

The system is absolutely in GFIN mode and beyond that, the future is looking very uncertain. All of the Sox competitive advantages in acquiring amateur talent have pretty much been whittled away to nothing at this point. Beyond the top group, the cupboard is fairly bare with no ready road to refilling it. We could be hitting the end of a great run right about the same time it happened in the last century.

There should be room for a couple of titles on the way there, though, but is sure would be nice to still have Espinoza and Pomeranz is now a superficial health question mark.

All of that said, DD shouldn't be expected to be able to predict the future.
