A story on the Algonquin Regional senior who broke the Doug Fister trade and isspending his family vacation at the Winter Meetings

He doesn’t make a dime for the pieces he writes for SB Nation’s MLB Daily Dish, but views the non-stop demands of covering baseball’s offseason as an investment in a career that has started earlier than he believed possible
During the school day, Cotillo is usually texting and emailing agents or executives. He figures the worst they can say is no. News doesn’t stop when the bell rings. Teachers have become more understanding of the discreet tapping as his reputation grows, but the phone is still off limits in math class.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The whole baseball world seemed to be here for last week’s winter meetings, the convention hotel lobby packed like a nightclub, and baseball’s youngest proclaimed insider zipping around while he texted with sources. He was the one in creaseless khaki pants, crisp dress shirt and red sneakers, his head held high.
Chris Cotillo is also only 18 and a high school senior, but after breaking several national baseball stories from his home in Northborough, Mass., in recent weeks, he was clearly a source of intrigue among the people who work in baseball or report on it for a living.
