The Blue Jays clearly understand this market. They fired him when both major sports news networks are locked on the NHL (first day of free agency).

I honestly didn't know who the manager of the Blue Jays was before hearing this

Unless they have a Bruce Bochy up their sleeve, is a first time manager like bench coach John Schneider really an upgrade over Montoyo in a pennant race?

I hope before they fired him, the Jays checked for all hazzards, especially making sure Charlie didn't have a son named Inigo.

We have seen 3 in season firings early on.

And Tony Larussa still has a job.

The timing was odd given the general angst the team seems to have been suffering after the death of Budzinski's (Jays 1B coach) daughter last week. I am thinking they were planning this a week or two ago and then held off? I find it interesting that they canned him after a win over the Phillies which took his managerial record back to .500

Gotta feel a little bad for Montoyo that they didn't wait until the All Star break. Tomorrow the Royals come to play four against the Jays missing TEN players from their roster due to being unvaccinated. A four game sweep to finish the first half might have saved his job.

Likely the FO knew that and thereby why they made the move now.

Until the recent series I thought they were still managed by John Gibbons who seemed to transform his look into the Town Drunk in his second stint. Had no idea he’d been replaced. Imagine he’s still available.
