He'll be carrying the Slovakian flag for the opening ceremony in Sochi.

Clode's thoughts:

“[Chara] talked to us about that. He came to Peter and me, and we addressed it. Peter approved it and it was certainly with my support,” said Julien. “When you look at what Zee has done for this club, I think it’s an easy decision to make when you’re carrying the flag for your country at the Olympics.

“Even if he misses a game, maybe two, I think it’s the least we can do for a guy that’s given so much to us since he’s been here.”

Can't really quibble there, if anybody in the organization has earned it, it's Chara.

Given his age and the emotional and physical toll the olympics are going to take to begin with, I'm not sure a couple games of rest isn't so bad anyway for the long term. Good for him, and good for the organization for letting him do it.

Very classy move, and as Ed notes, it's not a bad thing he gets some extra days to rest his legs. They are going to need to ride him in the playoffs even more with Seidenberg out.
