Chad Ford may have killed his career

Chad Ford changes his draft boards after the drafts in order to make it look like he accurately predicted who would have success in the NBA.

Whether he recovers from this probably depends on how much he relied on the "new" rankings in his writing.  If he ever said, "as I said in 2010, xx should've been a top 10 pick" when he actually did no such thing, then he should be fired.  If he only did this for vanity and never pointed to the altered boards as evidence of anything, he may survive with a suspension.

Who cares? Chad is the same guy who said "Darko is going to change the league," and that didn't kill his career. Who really cares that much about looking back at where some commentator had player X on his big board? Is it a tremendously vain thing to do? Sure, but it doesn't really effect the content he is putting on a wekk-to-week basis.

That's what makes it so strange.  Has a self-proclaimed draft expert ever lost a job because his picks were wrong?  Short of whipping his dick out on the air, this is pretty much the only way Ford could screw up his current gig.

Jim Boeheim had issues with Chad Ford earlier this season and last year.  Ford had Tyler Ennis as a lottery pick last season and Jeremi Grant as a 1st Rounder, neither of which happened.  Then Ford declared Chris McCullough  a lottery pick this season after a few games against the likes of Cornell and Colgate.  Boeheim laughed and said I hope he can get a double double against 6'4" power forwards.

The problem is, according to Boeheim, that the kids parents call him up right away when they hear Ford's projections.  Boeheim has quite a few connections to NBA Executives (HOF coach/US Olympic team) and hears differing information.  When Boeheim tries to explain to the kid/parents that another year of college ball would help it looks very self serving.

Statement from ESPN:

After reviewing the post on Reddit today, we have found that changes were made manually to Chad Ford’s NBA Draft prospects rankings.   We have not been able to determine who made the changes, or when.  We have talked to Chad Ford, who strongly denies any involvement, and based on his past work and professionalism, we believe him.  Our review will continue but it is unclear at this time if we will be able to ascertain who was responsible.

Completely farcial response. Any rudimentary content management system has the ability to view logs to see which accounts made changes on a given date & time. This isn't combing through years of footage here; the data is sitting on a server ready to be mined using a query.  The only valid explanation for delaying an announcement would be if they had to retrieve tape archived server logs back from 2-3+ years ago. That might take a couple days, but is entirely possible for a behemoth like ESPN. I work for a Fortune 10 company. Every (US) employee's ERP system activity is monitored, click for click. For example, If I wanted to see all the people that paid a vendor on a given date, it would take 1 hour tops.

I don't get how it's "unclear at this time if we will be able to ascertain who was responsible". You pull the logs, find out what the account name was, and see who had/has access to that account. Pretty standard stuff.

Perhaps ESPN would be less of a farce if their criteria for attacking the integrity of someone's character on-air aligned with their standards for disciiplining their own cheating/liar journalists. I forgot, ratings/attention/advertising dollars only pile up when Belichick is accused of cheating, instead of anyone else.
