When I read Chad's post about some of the featured scribes the history would include I let out a laugh, at a name not mentioned. Brother Chad knows his audience.

The book is a great idea and is being written by the perfect scribe for the job. I can't wait to read it, Chad!

As an aside, knowing very little of the content of the 400 or so articles and columns that were selected, from my perspective as an avid Globe sports section reader for most of my almost 71 years, I think I would be most interested in reading the war of words waged by certain Boston knights of the keyboard and one Theodore Samuel Williams.

Did Chad Finn ever address whether or not he believes he is underrated? Either side of being underrated can be bad, like if you are underrated it could mean people don't like you and if you aren't it could mean you're not very good.

I like his work, personally. Maybe the premise of this thread is that even though I like it I ought to like it more.

That's kind of a weird instinct. The argument could be made that without Dave Cullinane, neither the Mazz comments a few weeks back nor the Curtis comments actually get the social media firestorm they deserved. He brought them both to light, which is a good thing. Chad and Kirk have battled in the past so I assume that's why he does the blocking. Just seems odd because nobody would be talking about it if it weren't for Kirk's producer.

I don’t listen much to sports radio but Twitter complaints about blocking posters seems to be part of this alternate universe they live in where guys like Chad are snowflakes and tools of the Boston Sports Media Industrial Complex whose only goal is to protect their power and impose wokeness on the masses.

I can’t imagine how terrible it must be trying to do your job and actually report on stories like the Mazz or Curtis stuff with this crowd trolling you 24/7 and accusing you of having an agenda. Which is a long way of saying, I’m sure I’d block some of these posters too.

I don't block comments on articles. Don't have access to them, and don't usually read them anyway.

I do block a ton of people on Twitter. Makes the experience better. If they clearly haven't read my work and are parroting something they obviously heard from people who aren't operating in good faith, I block 'em (but always keep the ball inbounds like Russell) and move on.

It is amusing how much it bothers them.

That's sort of my question. If Cullinane doesn't send out the video clip of Curtis's gaff it likely doesn't become a story, yet he isn't attributed credit in the Globe.

Yeah, Cullinane deserves credit in both instances. Regardless of the issues that someone might have with his employer, he's the one that first brought the incidents to light.

Chad do you happen to know what Audacy's contract for the radio broadcast of the Sox is?
For some reason I thought it was $7 million a year, but on another board someone thought it was ~21 million a year which seems wild.

Edit: Just saw someone else who posted this:

Mentioned Sox-Audacy contract on Twitter (was to have ended this year but got extended) and @bostonradio replied:
"Correct, this is the final year of current deal. 5-year extension kicks in next year. It’s around $12 mill a year. EEI lost $5 mill on it last season from sources with direct knowledge of the situation."

Here to Eternity
So this thread has existed for nearly a decade now, and I must say I never really understood the title. Even back in 2013 it seemed that a substantial number of SoSHers appreciated Chad's writing talents and recognized that he was the best part of the Globe's sports coverage. So "underrated" never really seemed to fit. Perhaps "underexposed" at the time in the greater Boston market, but I would imagine that's not true either anymore. At least I hope not.

In any case, a few weeks ago I had an uncharacteristic spare moment to browse a bit in my local Barnes & Noble, so I used the time to flip through The Boston Globe Story of the Red Sox. It really looks fantastic, and I can't wait to read the whole thing. My birthday is coming up and I never know what to say when my wife asks me what I want as a present, but this year I finally have a perfect gift to ask for. Thanks Chad!

Thanks for picking it up, Dewey. My just-happy-to-be-rated self appreciates it.

@Chad Finn

Chad, I see you are doing a webinar on your book this coming Friday. Just FYI, they are requiring way too much personal info to register.

[Yes, burner email and fake postal address will cover things.]

The GBH one? What are they asking for? Looking forward to doing it, but they've had some interesting requests for me too. (Twenty free signed books, for one.)
Yes. Full name, email address, postal address, cellphone number

Apologize for the annoying self-promotional post here, but just wanted to let everyone know, since SoSH is the target audience for this, that a book project I've been working on for the last 10 months is now available. It's called "The Boston Globe Story of the Red Sox,'' and it's a compilation of the paper's coverage from the beginning of team's history. I shepherded the project, writing the intro and chapter essays and picking the 400 or so articles, which includes the best of Gammons, Montville, Fitzgerald, and many others. (One of my favorite stories is a full Gammons Sunday Notes column from 1980. It even mentions Juan Bustabad!) It's kind of my dream assignment come true. It's available March 7 and for pre-order now in the usual spots Happy to answer any questions about it. No, I did not include 45 J.D. Drew photos. More like 35, or 40 tops. -- Chad
Just bought a copy of this at the excellent Brewster Bookstore on the Cape for my dad for Father’s Day. We’re down here for a couple of days, and my parents are watching our dog back home. I am excited to give it to him when he drops the dog off!

Madrid
@Chad Finn Well, it finally made it's way to Madrid. Great stuff. It's been quite an experience reliving my own Red Sox history, but even more so to pick out times in my father's life when he probably was reading those same articles. Great way to "speak" to a very missed man. Thanks for this.

That's awesome. I love the Brewster bookstore, too. Thanks for picking it up, Van Everyman, and if you or anyone else here has a copy and wants to send it to me to sign, message me here or shoot me and email at chad.finn@globe.com. I'm happy to pay for return postage.

Aw, I love hearing this. The most rewarding part of putting this together, other than getting to read a billion Gammons, Fitzgerald, and Montville columns, is hearing how some of the stories take people back to a cherished time as a fan.

I'm hoping in 2 days your book gets a boost from what's happened with the basketball team.

BTW, thank you for this very generous offer, Chad -- I didn't end up taking you up on it because the bookstore wrapped it for me and I wanted to give it to him in person last weekend. He was very excited when I did!

Chad, editing fix needed for the abrupt ending of your latest column:

It seems like every mock draft I’ve looked at has the Patriots taking an offensive lineman in the top five. A franchise left tackle is a desperate need, but it will feel like something of
