Wish the (terrible) announcers in the Wake/Pitt game would stop celebrating Pickett’s bullshit fake slide.

Honestly, until they actually put Cincinnati in, I'm not 100% convinced they won't say "screw it" and just bump up Notre Dame.

No chance we get Bama/UGA in the semis, imo.

He's saying they should run Bama/UGA in the semis to set up Michigan/Bama for the natty.
Right. I missed that. I think there is something to be said for avoiding an all-sec title game especially since tonight's game wasn't very competitive but I doubt they will go that way.

I didn't think it was possible to be more obnoxious than Harbaugh... then they made Charles Woodson part of the broadcast.

He enjoyed the entire broadcast... never provided one iota of insight or thought and was nothing more than a designated cheerleader. I didn't see anything like that for any other team today.

The committee's job isn't to try to avoid conference rematch title games, it's to seed the teams 1-4....and in no way, shape or form should Georgia be below Cinci in any rational ranking.

It’s not their job, but they have manipulated the seedlings for their own purposes before. Regardless, I agree that Georgia should be (and will be) three. The only question is 1 and 2.

Both of the top two have strong cases based on how they finished. Michigan probably has a stronger case based on the last two weekends, but Alanbama beat #1 this week and I assume they’ll get the top slot. Which is fine.

I disagree; it sort of is their job. Otherwise we could just be using the AP Poll or the old BCS formula or whatever. The purpose of the committee is to make sure the result is a compelling television product.

This is one of the (many) reasons that I'd welcome an expanded playoff structure. With 8 or 12 teams, you'd be able to avoid immediate rematches in round 1/the quarterfinals, set up potential rematches in the semifinals, and then hopefully avoid rematches in the final. (I mean, the committee *could* blow me away and set up Bama-UGA and Michigan-Cincy semifinals this year, but I'm really not seeing it.)

Our disagreement is mostly a matter of semantics.

My understanding is that they are not supposed to consider factors like avoiding conference rematches, but I absolutely agree with you that they do, for the precise reasons you outlined.

As I said, I’m fine with it either way.

We'll have an answer in about 15 minutes, but here's how I think it plays out.

Alabama (1) vs. CIncy (4)
Michigan (2) vs. Georgia (3)

The only possible playoff matchup I have any interest in watching is Alabama-Michigan, and even that one I could take or leave.

UGA getting another shot at Alabama is not interesting at all.

This four team playoff with two SEC entrants every year is not good.

I'm going to use this as a jumping off point for an exercise I enjoy: if you were sports king, how would you crown a champion in 2022? Note: You are NOT required to do the same thing every year. If you want to schedule #1 v #2 this year, you're free to do a 16-team tournament next year.

I think the only teams that deserve a chance to earn it this year are Alabama, Michigan, and Cincinnati. So I would run Alabama vs Michigan and Cincinnati vs Ohio State. If Cincinnati wins, we play another game. If Cincinnati loses, the Alabama-Michigan winner is crowned national champions.

Also, Michigan's only loss was against MSU, 37-33, in a tight game where at least one Michigan TD was incorrectly overturned. If not for that, Michigan would probably be undefeated and easily ranked No. 1.

Not good why? Clearly the SEC has the best teams, year in and year out. You want the best teams playing.

Not good because I used to enjoy college football and now I enjoy it much less.

The correct way to do this would be an 8-team playoff among the 5 P5 champions, the top rated G5 champion, and two wild cards.

Sure, but only if ND is made to join a conference. Otherwise, they’ll always be one of the two wild cards.

But then you’d get Baylor who was probably the 3rd best Big 12 team. And you’d get Pittsburgh and Utah too.

the correct way to do it would be to get the top 5 finishers in the SEC, the best G5, whoever wins The Game, and Clemson.

No they wouldn't. There would be pretty intense competition for those two spots most years between the teams that lose conference title games, Notre Dame, and undefeated G5 teams.

Let's separate the SEC East from this conversation. The best team Georgia beat all year was Kentucky. They don't play in the same league as Alabama.
