Army tried to steal Navy's goat again!

Under the cover of darkness over the weekend, Army cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point crept into a secret compound, on a mission so dear to the cadet corps that it has survived generations of evolving warfare and official rebuke: stealing Bill the goat.

The goat is the mascot of the Naval Academy, the 37th in the line of rams of various breeds to hold that distinction. All 37 have been named Bill, and over the last 70 years, Army cadets have stolen Bill at least 10 times, beginning in 1953 with a plan that involved a convertible and some chloroform.

Navy midshipmen once nabbed the Army’s mule mascots as well. And Air Force Academy cadets have gotten a few heists in.

The pranks, euphemistically called spirit missions, are generally timed to precede the annual Army-Navy football game, where both sides’ mascots are expected to appear.

Penn State extended head coach James Franklin with a 10 year, 70 million dollar contract through 2031. Looks like other details allow the total deal to reach 85 million.
A lot of fans here in PA have grown tired of his game management decisions lately after the promising start to the season and have been hoping he would be offered the USC or LSU job. Not sure I agree. He recruits very well and there are not many great alternatives.

He strikes me as similar to Brian Kelly, a guy maximizing outcomes at a place that was once a top 5/national championship contender, now more like a top 10-15 program, that can make the occasional run if everything breaks right. Think the decision to extend him is probably a very good one.

Agree it was the right decision. I don’t quite see the comparison though. Kelly and Notre Dame seem to always win the games they are supposed to win where Penn State typically trips up in the meat of the BIG10 schedule to a team they should handle. Like Illinois this year. Also think Franklin is a likeable guy and a class act while Kelly seems like a giant ass.

New CFP rsnk8ngs:

10 Oklahoma
9 Ole Miss
8 Baylor
7 Oklahoma State
6 Notre Dame
5 Michigan
4 Cincinnati
3 Alabama
2. Ohio State
1 Georgia

So Alabama and Michigan probably both lose the next 2 weeks, does ND jump Alabama into 4th?

Feels like these are the remaining contenders:

SEC Champ
SEC Runner Up

1 (or maybe even 2?) loss Ohio State
Big 10 Champ Michigan

Undefeated Cincinnati
1-loss Notre Dame if Cincy loses or maybe even if they don't

1-loss Big 12 Champion

If it's close enough, I can definitely see 2-loss Alabama staying in the top 4. Especially if it keeps out Cincinnati. So something like 1 UGA 2 OSU 3 Bama 4 ND feels possible.

I can’t take any top 10 rankings seriously that has the same number of Big12(-2) teams as the SEC.

Not too long ago, I would get pissed off when Notre Dame undeservedly made the playoff. Now, I revel in the fact that they will get embarrassed in a nationally televised game by whatever team they end up playing.

It’s not an embarrassment to make the top 4.

Woo Pig! Hoping AtM loses tomorrow for a better shot at the Citrus so it's local, but at least the Outback or Gator are guaranteed. Welcome back to Florida boys!

Seminoles game is big for us this week. If we can beat UF and become bowl eligible it should help recruiting. Norvell is a little bit dweeby but he does seem to get the players to play hard. Would be nice to see him turn the program around.

NC State has been the better team, as expected, but UNC is now up 17-14 about midway through the 3rd quarter and has all the momentum. A few timely plays and some dumb luck (notably, on the punt block mentioned above) have been the difference so far.

NC State pretty clearly offside on that onside kick. Guess that isn’t reviewable.

Edit: And now a questionable roughing call. UNC getting screwed. (But the DPI call was legit.)

Thanks to @Deathofthebambino I go crazy when teams don’t kill the clock on first down in the final minute. Wasting 10 seconds to get off a rushed play is always an inferior decision to playing Canadian football.

Edit: Or call your timeout. It’s not like you can carry it forward to your bowl game.

Glad I didn't see the end of this one, I need to not get pissed off for at least one more day.

So many chances to use the timeout, instead of wasting it. Just inept. Bad work on the onside recovery attempt too, and before then allowing the long bomb. Can't believe they lost that one.

So the ball on the pass interference was catchable?
Ball landed 2 yards out of bounds but these are great athletes. I’m not giving the defense the benefit of the doubt on a foul that cynical. He was torched and gave a full bear hug.

Shouldn't Derek Jeter be spending his disposable time working on improving the Marlins?
