I've heard for a couple days now that Holy Cross coach Bob Chesney was in the mix at JMU. Well, a private jet is going to Worcester from Harrisonburg, VA this morning with the JMU AD on it and others. I've been told it's a done deal unless Chesney decides to back out.

Yeah, that flight was noted yesterday on some JMU boards--leaving Lynchburg and landing 15 minutes later near JMU, then leaving for Worcester. Also on the flight is the head of JMU's NIL collective.

I guess if I (HC grad) has to lose him, glad it's to my alumna daughter's school. Someone else reported the plane was going to stop on the way back in New Brunswick (where another candidate works, the DC who used to be the head coach of Maine), but that doesn't make any sense. Gotta think it's Chesney's job.

Chesney is a great all-round coach, recruiter, organizer, motivator.

Just take the two BC games in his coaching tenure to see how far he took the HC program; first game was 62-14 years ago and Addazio could have scored 80 or so if he wanted to. This year the score was 31-28 and a late HC fumble prevented them from winning.

Not the type of guy that's known as an offensive or a defensive genius; you know, the type that spent several years as a coordinator somewhere. It'll be interesting to see who he has doing those jobs; guys from the outside or guys that had/have something to do with Holy Cross.

If your qb stays in the transfer portal, Matt Sluka would be a more than adequate replacement.

Echoing... first class leader of men. Just a winner all around, and does it with integrity. We hate to lose him; he's a star for sure. Enjoy your time with him.

I really love this psycho
Me too. The way he disrespected Colorado when they announced they were leaving the Pac12 ("do you remember them winning anything?") and then when they played each other this year ("they're fighting for clicks, we're fighting for wins") was just perfect, especially when you back it up on the field. Damn I'm sad about the Pac 12.

So the falling dominos from Saban's retriement seems to be complete.

Alabama hires Washington's Kalen DeBoer
Washington hires Arizona's Jedd Fisch
Arizona hires San Jose State's Brent Brennan
SJSU is hiring Ken Niumatalolo

https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/san-jose-state-to-hire-ken-niumatalolo-all-time-winningest-navy-coach-poised-to-take-over-spartans-program/
Wonder if that's the record for "falling dominos" triggered by a coach retiring/moving to the NFL, etc.; i.e. 3 head coaches move on to somewhere else?

If Jim Harbaugh moves on, will this get repeated? I doubt a job as high profile as the Michigan job would go to one of his assistants.

I thought everyone has been assuming that Sherrone Moore will get the job when Harbaugh leaves. Am I wrong?

Michigan will make Moore its HC.

Tim Murphy retired last week after 30 years at Harvard (and 10 Ivy League championships). Amazingly, Harvard has had only two head coaches since 1971.

Quality of life going from Westwood/Pasadena to Columbus is also a weird decision imho. Plus he’s going to where football is king, from a school where people care about other stuff, on campus and off. Football is probably like the 17th, on a good day, likeliest sport to win UCLA a title

But he’s a NH’er so maybe it makes sense. Maybe he misses snow

Aww f**k.
Boise State's OC (and alum), Bush Hamdan heading to... Kentucky?!?!?! I hope the rumors are wrong.

After just landing a former 5* QB AND getting Heisman candidate Ashton Jeanty returning in the backfield -- makes no sense except short-term $$$.

edit: hopefully premature consternation on my part...

Speculation I saw is that he was very unhappy at UCLA and really really hates recruiting.
He only had 10 recruits in this years class, hates recruiting, hates dealing with NIL, and very openly was trying to get back to the NFL which he's hoping a year at OSU will be enough as a proof of concept. He's escaping a decaying program of his own doing because UCLA's AD couldn't get the money to fire him. Now UCLA has basically no HC options since it's February. The fans couldn't be happier to see him gone though. Completely messy situation on all sides.

Yay He is Day’s mentor. That’s exactly why he was hired and why he wanted that job

UNH OC when Day was QB to OSU OC when Day is HC.
Small world, flat circle, etc.
Throw into the mix BC's athletic director (two AD's ago), Martin Jarmond; is the one who hired Hafley, then took the AD job at UCLA. I'm not getting the feeling Jarmond is going to be at UCLA very much longer, either. Plus Day was at BC as well, twice.

Harvard hires a Rutgers position coach (OL, TE, RB over the last 3 years) as head coach to replace the legendary Tim Murphy.

I think a bunch of the players are going to be disappointed the Defensive Coordinator, Scott Larkee, wasn't promoted. Hopefully Larkee sticks around.

https://gocrimson.com/news/2024/2/12/andrew-aurich-named-the-thomas-stephenson-family-head-coach-for-harvard-football.aspx

Aurich is a Princeton alum, which is meh. As Principal Ava Coleman noted in last week's Abbott Elementary, "Princeton is the LaSalle of the Ivy League".

Harvard had two guys (Larkee and Joel Lamb) who'd been around a long time, both Harvard grads.

Odd choice, very odd, when the incoming guy has never been a head coach. In fact, they listed a fourth finalist and he hadn't been one either.

AD really put her foot in her mouth when she said something like "we wanted an educator coach". The team GPA was 3.4, not like they were letting kids just scrape by.

Damning piece in the Harvard Crimson about Harvard’s lackluster search for a head coach. Didnt do a full search, just relied on the connections of the administration for recommendations. Didn’t give promised communication to the players. Sounds like a rushed inside job, run by an inexperienced AD who didn‘t bother with a comprehensive process.
