I’m guessing ND likes Freeman enough and wouldn’t spend money on a current head coach (or facilities, part of why Kelly left). Grad assistant to ND head coach in a year is a wild ride.

Feels to me like Notre Dame is more worried about losing a month of recruiting time and certainty than necessarily hiring the best coach. I mean, Freeman might blow us all away, but isn't Fickell a much better (and safer) candidate on paper.

Yes, the early signing period is a huge driver of all these coaching moves now. If Cincinnati advances to the national title game, he wouldn’t be available until Jan. 11. I’m guessing ND, combined with being genuinely bullish on Freeman, didn’t want to risk losing that month. And also, to Fickell’s credit if this is the case, he’s not taking any offers until he knows their playoff fate.

Freeman is the major driver behind their upcoming top 5 classes in 2021 and 2022.

Kinda rough getting fired after basically one season (CSU only played 4 games during the covid year).

He was the wrong guy and they should have never hired him. Let's hope CSU won't be looking for Urban Myer's consulting recommendation for their next hire.

Urban can consult with himself and bring his former underlings, Steve and Dan, to his Jaguars staff next year.

Is now the answer to a trivia question, along with Woody Hayes: Name the two head coaches who got ejected in their final game.

Brian Kelly is one of the worst people in college sports. Just a despicable human being and I will be rooting for him to fail miserably. Nice accent, chump.

Love the Freeman hire for ND (and I’m a BC grad so I normally hate them).

I may be speaking from jaded experience of BC and Frank Spaziani but I don’t want the players picking the coach. That said, as someone who hates ND and everything they represent, I do want this. Less Brian Kelly, more Ty Willingham.

In the abstract? Sure. But this isn't a pro sport in which players sign contracts that limit their movement. This is a team in which half of the existing players could enter the transfer portal and half of the committed recruits could bolt if they don't like the hire.

(I still probably would have picked Fickel. But there are many, many good reasons to go down this route. Also, Spaziani was hired by BC way before the transfer portal existed - players back then had to skip a year to transfer.)

Miami better be investing heavily in facilities like their own stadium or I would never have made this move. The Hurricanes are irrelevant without their own stadium.

Just echoing everyone upthread who said they hate ND but really like Marcus Freeman and loved that video. Good for these kids to keep the good feels going and not feel like they need to leave. Happy for them.

An alum worth $20 billion who is related to Mario Cristobal through marriage is looking at building a 50,000 seat stadium about 2 miles from campus.

Miami won’t be elite again without an on campus stadium. Playing in a stadium 40 minutes away isn’t ideal.
