Meanwhile in Syracuse i get criticized for even suggesting a coaching change may be warranted...Man, tough crowd. Guy had one of the most dominant college teams I ever saw. Not the most dominant, but a great one.
Who is criticizing you?Meanwhile in Syracuse i get criticized for even suggesting a coaching change may be warranted...
The Syracuse boards (syracusefan.com is one) are full of people who are so victimized and traumatized they refuse to accept Syracuse deserves better than what they have. It's really pathetic.Who is criticizing you?
I thought yesterday would at least kick the can down the road.Man, tough crowd. Guy had one of the most dominant college teams I ever saw. Not the most dominant, but a great one.
Seeing that it's more off the field stuff.Man, tough crowd. Guy had one of the most dominant college teams I ever saw. Not the most dominant, but a great one.
If the off the field stuff is bad I wonder why they let him finish the season?Seeing that it's more off the field stuff.
PR with yesterday's upsetIf the off the field stuff is bad I wonder why they let him finish the season?
Mel TuckerI thought yesterday would at least kick the can down the road.
Who do they think they're gonna get? Urban? (Edit: I guess not!)

The pressure is on AD John Wildhack after the recent scandals, so I wouldn't be surprised if Babers is sacrificed if SU keeps losing and he continues to make baffling decisions on the sidelines. The Syracuse boards (syracusefan.com is one) are full of people who are so victimized and traumatized they refuse to accept Syracuse deserves better than what they have. Terry, I love ya man, but please don't say that.Don’t be surprised if James Franklin takes the USC job after the season ends. He is a big dreamer and reviving that program, in that town, might be a challenge he can’t turn down.
Just mouthing what a friend of mine who tutors players has been saying for the past year.Terry, I love ya man, but please don't say that.
I think Franklin will stay until he either gets into the championship series and / or wins, or until it becomes clear he will never get there in Happy Valley.
There have been reports about his extra-curricular activities crossing over into his professional responsibilities.Man, tough crowd. Guy had one of the most dominant college teams I ever saw. Not the most dominant, but a great one.
There are photos. And he asked a LSU VP’s wife is she wanted to fuck him as her work out at a gas station. His girlfriends and their kids came to practice and played on the field interrupting drills. There have been reports about his extra-curricular activities crossing over into his professional responsibilities.
The Sporting News has a nice summary of the reasons fo canning him here. There have been reports about his extra-curricular activities crossing over into his professional responsibilities.
I've been super impressed by Tucker's short stint so far at MSU. While SEC can certainly be alluring, Mel makes $5.5M and even for the vaunted SEC that's real money. Would LSU go for a relatively untested coach? Does he have any connections in Baton Rouge?Mel Tucker
One season as Saban’s DB coach at LSU 20 or so years ago iircI've been super impressed by Tucker's short stint so far at MSU. While SEC can certainly be alluring, Mel makes $5.5M and even for the vaunted SEC that's real money. Would LSU go for a relatively untested coach? Does he have any connections in Baton Rouge?
I agree with @terrynever that Franklin may jump to USC. I'm basing that on the simple fact that USC is the OSU of the Pac12 and PSU has been very good during Franklin's reign but at some point it's just easier to go to a nicer place where the deck is stacked in your favor, rather than pushing the boulder up the hill once again.
LSU is buying Orgeron out at his full $17 million, so money is no object. Mel Tucker used to coach for Saban in Baton Rouge and at Alabama(along with a stint at Georgia so he's SEC proven), so he'd be a viable candidate if Woodward's boy Jimbo Fisher says no. Woodward and Fisher are close friends from their earlier days at LSU. Woodward actually got Fisher to go to Texas A&M when he was there and made it so that there is no buyout owed to Fisher if he leaves. It won't cost Fisher a penny to leave College Station if he wanted to.I've been super impressed by Tucker's short stint so far at MSU. There are many reasons for this to happen, but the money will be mighty hard. LSU isn't ND, USC or Texas when it comes to finances (or donors).LSU is buying Orgeron out at his full $17 million, so money is no object. Franklin could also be a viable candidate given that he has been a head coach in the SEC at Vandy. If Penn St. doesn't pony up this offseason Franklin is gone IMO. Their president is leaving in June and AD Sandy Barbour's contract only goes to 2023. So if Franklin does leave, that could mean Barbour leaves too and the new president has to hire an AD and a football coach.
Woodword is known for making splashy hires wherever he goes. He lured Chris Peterson out of Boise to Washington when he was AD there, lured Jimbo Fisher out of Florida State and Buzz Williams out of Virginia Tech to Texas A&M when he was there, and lured WBB coach Kim Mulkey out of Baylor to LSU, and lured baseball coach Jay Johnson out of Arizona to LSU. I would expect this hire to of similar splash. I expect Jimbo Fisher to be the next head coach at LSU.
LSU has advantages that ND and USC don’t have. Mainly the state government and lack of in-state donation competition. There are many reasons for this to happen, but the money will be mighty hard. LSU isn't ND, USC or Texas when it comes to finances (or donors).
Oh, for sure. I just mean buying out Jimbo is something I don't think LSU can afford a $96 million buyout (great job aggy!).LSU has advantages that ND and USC don’t have. Mainly the state government and lack of in-state donation competition.
Yeah, Jimbo has $0 buyout. And you know who negotiated that? Scott Woodward!!Oh, for sure. I just mean buying out Jimbo is something I don't think LSU can afford a $96 million buyout (great job aggy!).
https://sports.yahoo.com/jimbo-fisher-leads-group-of-6-potential-candidates-to-replace-ed-orgeron-at-lsu-183715551.htmlAnyone who knows Woodward would know that his preference would be to hire Fisher, his longtime friend. The two worked together at LSU when both were young up-and-comers in the business. Woodward lured him to Texas A&M for a historic 10-year, $75 million contract that was fully guaranteed if A&M fired Fisher. It also wouldn’t cost Fisher a penny to leave. And even after Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork extended Fisher earlier this season — a move widely regarded as a way to fend off LSU — there’s still no cost for Fisher to walk away.
Imagine this scenario: An athletic director hires someone for more than $10 million year at a new school because of a one-sided contract he initially authored at the previous school that allowed the coach to walk away for free. That’s something that even the most creative SEC fiction writers couldn’t have authored.
Ahhhh, I was mislead. Woodward is a player, for sure.Yeah, Jimbo has $0 buyout. And you know who negotiated that? Scott Woodward!!

???LSU fans thinking they’re getting Jimbo Fisher is even more delusional than Texas fans thinking they were getting Nick Saban a few years back. College Station is a better situation than Baton Rouge. Who wants to deal with an administration and a fan base that have proven they have limited patience even for a championship coach, when you’re not getting a program with Bama/OU/USC-type advantages in the bargain? Hell, I’m not sure LSU could pry Mark Stoops away from Kentucky.
How serious and well-substantiated were/are the allegations against Miles and Orgeron????
They are/were more patient with Orgeron and Miles than to be expected for a coach with off the field issues, are/were they not?
Both would have been expelled immediately at schools with more progressive and/or impatient fan bases, I would think. The fanbase is why he's staying through the end of the year and not let go immediately.
Thankfully his losing the players and fellow coaches likely translated to mediocre on-the-field results, which we all know do not cut it in Baton Rouge. Had the Tigers kept winning, his behavior probably gets covered up and, thereby, enabled. The Sporting News has a nice summary of the reasons fo canning him here.

The Wazzu coach is available after getting fired for not getting the vaccine.
https://theathletic.com/news/washington-state-fires-nick-rolovich-as-vaccine-mandate-deadline-passes-reports/WPtOYKJSw27g/Washington State fired head coach Nick Rolovich and his unvaccinated assistant coaches on Monday with cause, according to media reports, as the state's COVID-19 vaccine mandate for state employees went into effect. Washington state employees had to be vaccinated or approved for an exemption by Monday. No immediate plans for an interim coach were announced.
It’s not just the fans bringing him up. The AD is best friends with him. They both spent time at LSU together back in the day. If Fisher wants the job, it’s his.LSU fans thinking they’re getting Jimbo Fisher is even more delusional than Texas fans thinking they were getting Nick Saban a few years back. His buyout is $20.4 million and he's an alum. I think he'll survive. There's no way Scott Frost can survive into another cornhole, er, husker season.
Whoa whoa. Nicer place than Happy Valley???!!! And I'm not sure about the "easier to go". assuming that means to get away from what most consider an perennially-better OSU program that Penn State. But much of that is recruiting, and Penn State's recent success in this area is on an upward trajectory. Last I looked, Penn State was either #1 or #2 with Notre Dame for the 2022 cycle.I agree with @terrynever that Franklin may jump to USC. I'm basing that on the simple fact that USC is the OSU of the Pac12 and PSU has been very good during Franklin's reign but at some point it's just easier to go to a nicer place where the deck is stacked in your favor, rather than pushing the boulder up the hill once again.
Perhaps. Nebraska is about as proud a football program as there is. They will not suffer this lightly. His buyout is $20.4 million and he's an alum. I think he'll survive.
Sure. I’m saying he’d be crazy to want the job. It’s not just the fans bringing him up. The AD is best friends with him. They both spent time at LSU together back in the day. If Fisher wants the job, it’s his.
Why not? They look better to me than they have in years. I don’t play close attention so what am I missing? There's no way Scott Frost can survive into another cornhole, er, husker season.
There's definitely some tangible improvement in the on-field product this year, but they're going to need to go 3-1 (Purdue, Ohio St., @ Wisconsin, and Iowa) just to make a bowl game, so at some point the results have to match up with the improvement. And they lose a bunch of "super seniors" after this year, and recruiting is bordering on a disaster (Rivals has them ranked 83rd for 2022).Why not? They look better to me than they have in years. I don’t play close attention so what am I missing?
